"If" you read properly through Skyliner's advice, you'd have seen the link to supply system details. We cannot help much without them.

Start off by deleting your gnutella.net file when LW's properly closed. Then start LW & see whether you have a connection.

Otherwise, there are lots of other fixes to try in that thread:)

Thanks Birdy - problem solved after months of frustration (and consigning LW to the scrapheap).
Registered only to bestow my thanks (only needed Gnutella file deleting).

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) If using Windows Vista, please tell us whether you have an Administrator user account.Vista yes I am the administrator
2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall
3. How much ram? Not sure Just bought the computer last year
4. Hard Disk space available? Not sure
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? (eg: Linksys WRT54Gv4) Motorola
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?Home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help bar > About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 4.18 and Java 6.12_ Click to see Sample image
*It's very important that you tell us whether you're using LW 5*
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Shaw
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Not Sharing
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem about week and a half
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes_ click here to see Sample image
If you're using LW5, there's no firewall icon. In LW go tools > advanced tools...there you'll see whether you're behind a firewall or not.

17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Have you updated your version of LW or Java? Have you added any new software or new hardware? Have you updated any software? Have you moved house, changed internet plan or ISP etc etc? Tried to update to LW5 when problem started and nothing changed but then went back to LW4.18

I have tried all the suggestions in the forum and nothing changed.

Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2009 does include a firewall. Is the PCillin firewall turned on or off? If it's on then make a firewall rule allowing LW, & disable Vista's firewall.

Okay i am using limewire 5 on my windows vista and am unable to connect! This happened out of no where. I tried deleting the whole thing and reinstalled it, still no connection. Please help with a step by step process!

barsan87 February 11th, 2009 11:01 AM

I have also checked my firewall and limewire is already an exception.

Lord of the Rings February 11th, 2009 11:54 AM

Try deleting your LW preferences folder? It must only be done whilst LW is closed; http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html

When setting up, it might be worth disabling performance options as described here: If LW Will Not Connect (click on the blue link)

barsan87 February 11th, 2009 12:33 PM

Also another thing which most likly does not have to do with connection problems is that my limewire keeps freezing up. This problem has never occured before and i have been using limewire for probably 6-7 years. Problems with freezing and problems with connections started at the same time!

Lord of the Rings February 11th, 2009 12:35 PM

Remove all your incomplete files from your incomplete folder, if only temporarily. Then try opening LW. The incomplete files might be flooding the connection as well as freezing your LW. ;) I'd back up your preferences folder or if you still have it, the downloads.dat & .bak files in the incomplete folder when you remove the incomplete files.
