![]() I used to be able to connect with 4.8.x using the same hardware at my old house connecting with BellSouth DSL service (at least 5 months ago was the last time I connected). Now I moved and have a cable modem through Comcast. They assured me that they have nothing blocked, but I can't get connected. 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP Pro w/ SP2 2. What firewalls you have? Windows SP2 default only 3. How much ram? 1.00GB 4. Hard Disk space available? 167GB 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Cable 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Linksys WRT54GSv2 (router), Motorola SB5120 (modem) 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? condo 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LimeWire v4.12.11, Java 1.5.0_12 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Comcast 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? "Your test worked!" 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. There is only one PC on the network at this time, but I have the wireless router setup so that I can use my laptop also 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem with an experienced user 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I've tried it with UPnP enabled (default) which used to work before, and that didn't work. I've also tried forwarding the port (didn't work either), and putting the pc in the DMZ (didn't work) 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall ![]() I've tried a few things, and wanted to include them: 1) I connected my PC directly to the cable modem, restarted everything, and tried the same things. No connection, and the test above passes also 2) I've tried completly disabling the Windows Firewall while I was connected directly to the cable modem, and the firewall symbol is still in the bottom corner, no connection 3) I tried messing with the exception listing for LimeWire in case it didn't get removed and readded properly when I uninstalled and installed the new version of limewire, but that had no effect either. I did notice that if I tried to add it manually, it woudl show up as LimeWire 4.8.1 instead when I chose the program from the list... 4) Like I said, I lived in another place 6 months ago with the same PC and LimeWire version 4.8.1 connected through BellSouth DSL and the same hardware etc, never had a problem. The problem existed when I fired up v4.8.1 for the first time in the new place too. 5) Reading over my own comments, I am leaning towards thinking tha Comcast is to blame. How can I prove that my ISP is blocking LimeWire traffic? I thought the link above was to test that? |

![]() I was reading over some of the other, similar posts and wanted to add a few other comments: I completely uninstalled all remnants of Java and LimeWire, rebooted, installed the Java version mentioned, then LimeWire, then restarted again in the troubleshooting process. Thanks again! |

![]() Is Comcast the condo complex's ISP? Is there any chance that the complex has a firewall associated with it's internet service? You could ask the manager. Do you know if any other people there can use p2p? Some people have had trouble with Comcast. In some cases they're limiting p2p uploads but AFAIK aren't actually blocking connections. Use the forum search to look for Comcast & you'll be able to look through older threads. Which other Java version did you install? Was it JRE 1.5.0_11? Try changing ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 64049, or something in the range of 49152 - 65535. Apply to save the change. Any ports forwarded within a router will also have to change. You could also redo your port forwarding. Have a look on the list of routers here. There's no WRT54GS v2 but there's a WRT54GS & a v4...maybe the instructions will still suit your router. PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall Don't forget the step of setting up a static IP address. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within a router must all be the same number. You could also try downloading the LW Beta version & see if that connects. Lime Wire » Download LimeWire As a last ditch effort ![]() Fixes for LimeWire This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later. |
