Win Firewall, Norton (both are disabled) 3. How much ram? 512 MB 4. Hard Disk space available? 49.4 GB 5. Connection type? cable 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Netgear WGR614v5 7. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. this is my first try 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? UPnP is enabled 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall :) Norton Internet Security (firewall disabled) 16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). Livin' in the USA! I cannot connect to the network to begin searching for files using Limewire. I hope all this helps. Thanks! |
A couple of things that may be causing the connection problem for you... 1. Norton Internet Security, have a look at these instructions on configuring it even though the filrewall is disabled ... Port Forwarding for the Norton Internet Security 2007 2. Your Netgear WGR614v5 also has a Nat Firewall within, so Port Forwarding will open a port for limewire to access... Port Forwarding for the Netgear WGR614v5 |
I tried both options that you suggested and still nothing. I'm using Norton 2004, not 2007, but that shouldn't make a difference should it? Is there anything else I can try? |
Yep, there are still a few things you can try...;) Try deleting your preference folder/s...This will reset your configurations back to default and get rid of any corruption that may of happened...;) Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version.... Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11 |
I tried both of those and still cannot get it to connect. I'm not sure what else to try at this point. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks for being patient with me! |
Hi sgibbs77 Try this - it worked for me [1] Uninstall the old version before installing the new -- delete the old LW folders from the Programs directory before installing the new version [2] Ensure that you have java script J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 (Jre ver 5) if not download from here:- Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11 · Uninstall Limewire by using LW uninstall program not the add/remove control panel Start -> All Programs -> Limewire -> Uninstall · delete old LW folder from programs directory:- c:\programs\Limewire <--- (delete this folder) Hope this helps -- please let us know |
