Default still not working

alright Birdy. I did everything on that list. Downloaded new Java, got my static ip address, did the port forwarding. and it still wont work. I shut off my windows firewall and stuck with Mcafee. so I am still freakin lost. I don't know what else to do. Can you think of anything else I might be doing wrong? Help please

It's not a good idea to run 2 software firewalls at once...they'll interfere with each other & you'll end up being less secure Pick one firewall, configure it to allow LW & turn the other one off.
Look at my post #8, delete the preferences folder & change Java versions. If you decide to update to the latest Java & can't connect - try that older Java instead! Deleting prefs folder & up*******changing Java are 2 fixes that often work when someone starts having problems out of the blue.

Your ISP is the company that you pay for your internet access (eg Tiscali, Pipex, Virgin). Who is yours?
Do you have a box with lights on it that plugs into your computer & lets you connect to the net? If so, have a look for brand & model.

kaos0051,

Same deal for you as for linz321...choose either McAfee or Windows firewall. Not the 2 together.

Make sure that there's not a Windstream firewall causing problems. Check the thread below
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html

In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 64049 (or you can try other ports in the range of 49152 - 65535) > apply > ok. Restart LW & see if you can connect.

Your Java version's a bit old. Update to one of the versions linked to in post #8.

If UPnP's enabled on the Siemens, try port forwarding instead. If the fixes above don't work, go to the site below. Find your router model, click on that & then choose LimeWire from the list of programs...you'll find step-by-step instructions for setting up port forwarding.
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall
If setting up a static IP's part of the instructions, don't miss that step. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router should all be the same number.

kaos0051,

Which Java version did you use? If you updated to 1.6.0_03, try the older Java 1.5.0_11 instead. Remember to remove all other Java versions before installing another one.

Did you try some other ports in the range that I gave you before?

Delete LW's preferences folder, see post #8 for instructions. Make sure that LW's properly closed first.

tabbydahl,

Make sure that LW's still being allowed through your firewall (I didn't know that Win 98 had it's own firewall).
Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See post #7 for instructions.

In LW file > disconnect. Wait 5 mins then file > connect.

Try the older version of Java mentioned on post #8.

LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router should all be the same number.

coryjeb,

It's not a good idea to run 2 software firewalls at once...they'll interfere with each other & you'll end up being less secure Pick one firewall, configure it to allow LW & turn the other one off.

Also try the older version of Java mentioned in post #8. Remember to remove any other Java versions before installing another one.

There doesn't seem to be a firewall in your modem.
If you still can't connect after removing a software firewall & changing Java, try changing ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 65000 (or something in the range of 49152 - 65535) > apply > ok.

Birdy- was just using the norton 360 firewall. loaded the older version of java, tried about 10 different port numbers, all to no avail. Any other suggestions? Thanks

BTW- before I wrote you the first time, I already did the pref folder delete, tried the microsoft firewall instead, uninstalled limewire/reinstalled.

A few Mediacom customers have had connection problems lately. I can't find any evidence that Mediacom are currently 'blocking' p2p somehow, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they're not. If you use Google to search for Mediacom blocking p2p, there are quite a few articles but they're all really old.

In LW go tools > options > advanced > firewall config & check the 'manual port forward' radio button. Enter LW's listening port number into the box there. Even though you don't have port forwarding set up for a modem/router...try it anyway!

Do you know whether anybody else in the apartment complex uses p2p successfully? Is Mediacom the ISP for the whole complex or did you choose your own ISP?

Try one of these other p2p apps & see whether you can connect with any of them.
FrostWire

Phex

BearShare

Default Birdy....

I tried the "manual port forward" thing, no success. Not sure about others in the complex, I choose my ISP. Frostwire did not work, did the same thing as limewire. Phex worked right off the bat, and I have downloaded songs already, did not try Bearshare since Phex worked. Why would this one work and not limewire? Also, if phex is working, is limewire better? What are the differences? Also, I did pay for limewire, so not sure what to think.... Thanks
