Talking IT guys in office have blocked Limewire

Hey All this is my first post here so please do let me know when and if i don't give you enough technical information... I'm just an average joe who uses the web and not an expert on IT matters... I use limewire on my office network since the web link is faster here than the one at home... I'm on Mac OSX 10.4.1 and the office network is on windows platform. They do have a firewall but all these days i didn't have a problem connecting to the web via limewire... Now it's just says "starting connection" but it never connects... When i launch limewire it says that "you're machine doesn't appear to be having an internet connection" I use firefox as my browser and until recently it was connecting to the web via "auto detect proxy settings" but now i have to enter a proxy... I'm assuming that through the proxy server the IT guys have blocked limewire... Is there anyway to bypass the IT guys trick to block limewire or do i just give up and settle for the slower speeds at home... thanks in advance for an input

Sorry Guys...missed this one

1. OS version? Mac OSX 10.4.1
2. What firewalls you have? Windows based Hardware Firewall, i have no clue as to settings etc. probably the IT guys have blocked limewire
3. How much ram? 2GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 150GB+
5. Connection type? leased line broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? dont know
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, apartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Office
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? 14.10.9 Pro and Java 1.5.0_06
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Local ISP, limewire is not blocked by them since it works from my computer at home
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p s: I'm on the office network so it's a shared connection over a proxy server
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user: its a new problem with an experienced user
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? _ Yes
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? i experimented with this setting on limewire but nothing worked
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Not sure but it was working fine until very recently
16. What country are you living in? Sri Lanka

Ranilgreen

There is no way anyone on this forum can help you with this problem, if you really want to use LW that badly then you will have to talk to your (friendly) IT guys where you work.

After all, they are the ones with the knowledge and expertise on how your firewall (security) is set up, anyone else would only be guessing.

I have just re-read your original post. I most humbly apologise for my inappropriate remarks, as they were totally out of order.

Any company that lets you work so many long hours deserves to be ripped off. So I wish you all the luck in the world in finding the music you want.

In the spirit of friendship and reconciliation I wish to share with you recent technological innovations such as the MP3 and IPod !

Saint Stew

First of all... got the problem sorted thanks to the brilliant "techno" input i got from these forums... LW wasn't blocked but there had been some sort of problem in the program... I just deleted and reinstalled it and it's all good...

Thank you for your valuable input on Ipod's and MP3's I'm sorry to hear that you categorize them as "recent developments"

BTW... this is a technical support forum so you can keep your comments about how i use LW to your silly self

Who got slapped the most UH?

On a personal note. In the UK isn't Entourage one of most underetimated shows on tv now? the reason I ask is, this thread is over without new input.
