TRY THIS:
(you must show all hidden files)
[1] Open windows explorer
select Tools à Folder Options à View à Show hidden files and folders.
[2] In windows explorer look for the Limewire Folder – go here:-
c:\documents and settings\username\applications data\LimeWire
(or)
c:\documents and settings\username\limewire

[3] Ensure that limewire is completely off (check that it isn't in the system tray-bottom right-if it is click on it and select exit)
now open the .limewire folder and look for and delete the gnutella.net file (see image below)

[4] download a new version from (here) and save it to yr desktop
[4] Drag the new gnutella.net file from your desktop into the limewire folder.
[5] Close the LW Folder and start up Limewire

If this doesnt work click on Limewire Links (If LW Will Not Connect) in my signature and work yr way through the fixes - if these dont work try (connection problems) if yr problem remains pse post yr system details here

deleting/replacing gnutella.net
The instructions you were following were for windows XP SP2 so you wouldnt be able to find the Limewire folder with that pathname. Click on this link (How to Show Hidden Files In Vista)

In vista the Limewire Folder (or Preference Folder) is found here:-
C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire

[1] Ensure that limewire is completely off (check that it isn't in the system tray-bottom right-if it is click on it and select exit)
now open the .limewire folder and look for and delete the gnutella.net file (see image below)

[2] download a new version from (here) and save it to yr desktop
[3] Drag the new gnutella.net file from your desktop into the limewire folder.
[4] Close the LW Folder and start up Limewire

If this doesnt work pse go to limewire links below and click on (If LW will not connect) and work yr way through these fixes -- if yr problem still remain click on (connection problems) if this cant fix it pse click on (system details) and fill in as much as you can and post here
