Default Connection Problem (Yes, I have read all other posts before posting this thread)

Hello. Like a lot of the other threads, I am also having connection problems with Limewire version 4.18.4. I have read all the stickies and tried them all, but to no avail. I have also searched up all the other threads containing "connection problems" and still have not solved my problem. Like all the other's, my Limewire is stuck on the "Starting Connection" with one green bar.

Things I have tried:
Everything in the stickied thread.
That includes replacing the Gnutella file. (I tried that once, and it worked fine. Then, the next time I opened Limewire, I had the same problem. I tried replacing the file again, but it did not work).
Port forwarding. (Although I set up my port forwarding to allow Limewire, I still see a message in my router's security log saying it blocked the connection whenever I try to connect limewire. Unfortunately, I forgot what the message exactly said and I will post it up if I find it).

On to my System Details:

1. OS version?
Windows XP SP2

2. What firewalls you have?
I use the Windows SP2 Firewall and my anti-virus program is Avast!. I have set the exceptions for Limewire on my Windows Firewall.

3. How much ram?
I have one gigabyte of ram. 1024 gb.

4. Hard Disk space available?
My hard drive is 150gb. I split it up into two, with my C drive having 40 and my D drive having 110. Limewire is installed on my D drive.

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
I use DSL from AT&T. (formerly known as SBC Yahoo)

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
My DSL modem is a speedstream 5100. My router is a Microsoft MN-500.

7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?
I am trying to connect from my house.

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
Limewire version: 4.18.4
Java Version: 1.6.0_05

9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?
AT&T DSL

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
It says "Your test worked!"

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
I am sharing my connection through a router. I have a wireless adapter attached to my other computer to pick up the signal from my router.

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
I have used Limewire for a while now. Maybe about three to four years. This is the first time I have encountered this problem.

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? _ click here to see Sample image
Yes, I see a brick wall.
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled?
I have tried port forwarding and I am pretty sure UPnP is enabled. I have made the exceptions for Limewire on my security page for my router. I followed all the instructions on the port forwarding site ([URL="http://www.portfoward.com"*******computerparts.us[/URL]) for Limewire.

15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall
I use Avast! and Windows Firewall.

16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland).
I live in California, United States of America.

I appreciate the help and let me know if you guys need any more information to help me solve this problem. Thank you.

Have you tried deleting the '.limewire' folder while LW is shut down? I was having the same problem and this is what ended up working for me.

People might not have a prefs folder named .limewire - depending on which versions of LW they've had installed. The prefs folder can also be named LimeWire & can be found within the hidden (by default) Application Data folder. See skyliner's 'If Limewire Will Not Connect' link for more info.

Hi itzjas0n

the problem is more than likely your firewalls, windows & and your router -- It is not enough, with any firewall, to allow a limewire application access to the internet. that is a necessary step, but only one of two.
The other step is to open the application's listen port to incoming traffic. The first step doesn't do this. You must tell the firewall to allow incoming traffic on port # xxxxx - whichever it is that you're using. Finally you could always use port forwarding (I know you tried it already but did youy use these instructions)
(portforwarding speedstream 5100) Most important is setting up a static ip (static IP Instructions) let us know how you get on

I am pretty sure the problem is within my router. I cannot access the IP when I was following the instructions on the portfowarding speedstream 5100, but I have tried the portfowarding for my router, Microsoft MN-500. My Limewire started to connect a day after I posted my original post, but a couple of days later, it stopped connecting. Sorry for the late response. I've been very busy doing school work.

Hello again. I have tried setting up my static ip again and limewire still does not connect. I am almost 100% sure that it is my router blocking limewire's connection. Other file sharing programs, such as bittorrent and Azureus, work perfectly on my computer, but Limewire does not seem to connect. I have also tried deleting my "preferences" folder and that did not work. I tried everything in the stickied thread AND all the links in skyliner's signature.

Please help me figure this out and thank you in advance for all the help.

To find out if it is your router/firewall that is blocking you from LW -- please disable it then try and connect to LW -- also please check that you only have one version of java in your add/remove programs -- let us know how you get on

Disable your windows firewall and see if you can connect to LW --if it still doesnt work try this (http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...ng-should.html) -- As you have tried all the stickies the only other reason would be that it could be your ISP blocking you -- click on this link (isp at&t p2p problems)
