Brick wall

My son and I haven't been able to use Limewire for over a year. There is a brickwall in front of the globe. I have installed a registry optimizer and spyheal some time ago. Do I have to uninstall these, for LW to work? I'm on a Dell desktop.

In Limewire Links (below) click on (system details) and fill in as much as you can and post back here

1. Windows XP
2. Windows?
3. 1.00 GB
4. A lot
5. Charter cable
6. Ambit U10C018
7. My apartment
8. The free version, the newest Java
9. Charter cable
10. It worked
11. No
12. My son and I have had Limewire for years. Loved it. A year or two ago it stopped
working.
13. Yes
14. I have no idea
15. Trend Micro and Avast. I just installed avast today. I recently uninstalled registry
optimizer and Spy Heal, thinking LW would work, it didn't.
16. Los Angeles Cal.
I've used Limewire when my son first installed it over 1,000 times. I've had the
famous one green bar, and brickwall for sometime. When I asked for help in the past,
I kept getting yelled at about my system and why I was looking in the wrong
section of the help area.

I want Limewire back. Thank you.

Make sure you only have 1 firewall enabled -- if you have more than 1 it causes problems. Ensure that your firewall is allowing permission for Limewire to enter/leave your computer. check in your add/remove programs that you only have 1 version of java installed. In Limewire Links (below) click on (If LW will not connect) and go through these fixes -- -- also click on (ISP's known to block LW) and scroll down and look for your ISP as it is on this list (para 14) -- let us know how you get on with the fixes

As far as computers go, I know how to push the power button. All the possible answers given to me, I couldn't understand. Preferences, tips, Gnutella, I want Limewire back, please make it easier. Thank you.

In Limewire Links below -- (IF LW will not connect) I presume you understood the first 2 fixes -- okay onto the 3rd fix --- replacing the gnutella.net file --

Try this:- (you must show all hidden files)
[1] Open windows explorer (windows XP SP2)
select Tools à select Folder Options à select View à select Show hidden files and folders.
[2] In windows explorer look for the Limewire Folder – go here:-
c:\documents and settings\username\applications data\LimeWire
(or)
c:\documents and settings\username\limewire

[3] Ensure that limewire is completely off (check that it isn't in the system tray-bottom right-if it is click on it and select exit)
now open the .limewire folder and look for and delete the gnutella.net file (see image below) If you don't find a gnutella.net file dont panic - go to para [4] and cont.

http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/LW_g...1196869679.jpg
[4] download a new version from (here) and save it to yr desktop
[5] Drag the new gnutella.net file from your desktop into the limewire folder.
[6] Close the LW Folder and start up Limewire

please let me know how you get on with this fix -- if this doesnt work we will move onto the next fix in the link

I don't know if I did all this correct, but I still don't have limewire running. When I was at the my computer part, I did see a windows firewall.

Did you check that you only had 1 firewall running -- I see that you have windows xp and you are running trend micro -- windows has a firewall --does trend micro include a firewall if so disable the windows xp firewall -- running 2 firewalls causes problems. To disable windows firewall go here -> Start -> All Programs -> System Tools -> Security Center (Click windows firewall -> off)
let us know when you have done this.

I have trend micro and windows defender. As for disabling my firewall, when I went to start, then to all programs, I couldn't find system tools. All programs was a list of stuff in alphabetical order.

OOPS !!! Sorry my mistake -- I missed out a step -- Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Security Center now click on Windows Firewall -> click off this will disable your windows XP firewall but only do this if Trend Micro has a firewall -- you didn't tell me if it has.
