Oh no! Just stopped working... Well this is interesting... Has been working since you helped me, and this morning I opened it. Well, now it is not working, saying that I have a firewall up again? I checked the backends (port forwarding) and even changed all the numbers again. *To Number 50659. - made a new rule, as before, and all the numbers match 50659 (both in limewire and port forwarding rule. Any reason why the firewall would come back up? |
Got it WORKING! Hey, I tried the trick of turning off "automatically start LW"....turned it off and restarted my computer. Now its back to working...keep those fingers crossed:) |
Wondering Why, I am having similar problems on my system. I was using a cable modem, and Limewire fine for many years, We just switched to Verizon DSL, and Limewire won't connect and search. I take my laptop to another hot pot, and can connect without a problem, so I know it the DSL. I changed within Limewire my Manual port forwarding to 59998 in both bozes (manual port and Listen on port). I changed my ROUTER (as explained on the link) to Port Forwarding, start port = 59998, end port = 59998 with an IP address of 192.168.2.100. (router is 192.169.2.1) i am using Windows XP, but outside of that, my setup is pretty much the same as the other one listed here. I followed the link you had posted, but it still didn't seem to work. Do I need to change the settings on my MODEM as well? if so how do I do that? thanks for any help. -ron |
You might have to, could you supply these details please that way I can take a closer look at your set up... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...-you-post.html Make sure that you don't have a firewall from Verizon...if their security suite is part of your internet package then there could be a firewall included. http://www2.verizon.net/micro/vissbu...e_firewall.pdf |
To which I would add, make sure you never use Verizon. But, seriously, when I got to this page I had pop-up that read- You must type in your password to read this page. Finally, after I hit cancel three times, the pop-up went away. Port designations... if they ain't broke, don't fix them! |
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows XP 2. What firewalls you have? The standard windows firewall is the only on that I know of. But I’ve used LW with that active in the past. LW is on the exception list. I was told by Verizon that since I didn’t sign up for the Extra Anti-virus pack (which costs more) That I don’t have any other firewalls from them. (I’m not sure if I believe that.) 3. How much ram? 248 Mb 4. Hard Disk space available? 55Gb 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) DSL 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Modem: Westell F90-610015-06 / Router: NETGEAR WGR614 v6 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, apartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help bar > About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.18.8 / Java 1.6.0_07 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Verizon 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Page not found / Cannot display page. 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. PC with wireless router & 2 wireless laptops. 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. We’ve used LW for a couple of years, but since we switched from Cable modem to Verizon DSL, LW says we’re connected, but only the 1 shortest bar is green, the rest are red. But when you try and search, nothing happens, no results no up, nutting. We run LW primarily on our PC, but I recently installed it on my Laptop that I take back and forth to work. When I take my laptop to work and use the internet connection there, LW works fine. 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes, I do, but I also do when I’m at on my internet connection there and LW works fine. 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? On my modem set up, I have the option for Port forwarding and Port Triggering, I chose port forwarding. 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall. Avast, but I’ve always been running that. I disabled it to try and get it to work, and still nothing. On my Laptop, I also use avast, and again on the internet connection at work, LW works fine even with Avast. 16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). USA (IN) 17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Have you updated your version of LW or Java? Have you added any new software or new hardware? Have you updated any software? Have you moved house, changed internet plan or ISP etc etc? LW worked fine for years. We changed from our cable internet provider to Verizon DSL. When that happened, I had to change settings on my router to get that to work. I still have issues in that I have to manually change my Outgoing server (SMTP) Server Port number every time I take me laptop from home to work or vice versa. My incoming mail is fine, but my outgoing does not work unless I change that Port # to 25 at home, and 587 at work. I was told by Verizon that I could sign up for the “yahoo add-on” and some how that if I link my Outlook mail to that, that will fix that issue. |
It sounds like Verizon is the culprit here, if limewire works on your laptop at work, it's not a fault with that....It maybe your port forwarding set up, but I doubt it... The give away is Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Page not found / Cannot display page. Normally when you see that it means that your ISP is shaping your connection to p2p sites.... These are your step by step instructions for port forwarding your Netgear router....See how you go with them.... Port Forwarding for the Netgear WGR614v6 |
OK, thanks for the info. I followed the instructions. My Computer already has a static IP address of 192.168.2.5. I choose a port # 59998. On my modem set-up, I did as it said, Service Type: TCP/UDP; Starting Port: 59998; Ending Port 59998; Server IP address: (it came up with 192.168.2.__; I input a 5 into the last place. I then re-started the computer, modem and router. then I restarted LW, and still the same thing. 1 small bar of connection, and nothing else. I also then tried http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ and still nothing. |
I really think it's your ISP and if it is there will be nothing you can do except to change to another that doesn't block P2P.... You could try these fixes just in case though.... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html |
Even though i've been told by at least 4 people from Verizon that my modem DOES NOT HAVE A FIREWALL, well I stumbled onto it just the other day, I typed in the IP address of my modem, and there it was.... and it was set to HIGH. I turned it off, and BOOM, everything works great. I even spoke to a Verizon after this, and they denied there was a Firewall, And I tell them It is there, or was, and they talk to me like i'm a nutjob!!! So much for their tech support team... |
