Sorry, another firewall problem... I know there are lots of threads about this, but to be completely honest I dont understand ONE bit! :o I have had LW for well over a year and up until yesterday NO problems. I cant connect, it has the little brick wall next to the globe. I dont know diddly squat about firewalls and settings. I wont pretend I do, but I am willing to learn if you will all teach me. :xeri_ok1ani: Okay, I will give you as much system detail as I possibly can. I will warn you, it wont be much. I am running on windows Vista, with DSL, my ISP is att (sbcglobal.net) and I have the latest version of LW. I already tried uninstalling it, and it did NOT solve the problem. I did the test, and it worked. 320GB Hardrive 1024MB system memory I have Norton 360, and I guess by default windows firewall too? Please help!! |
Start off by making sure that your Norton firewall's not running at the same time as the Vista firewall... 2 firewalls running at once will cause problems. If they're both on, turn off the Vista firewall & make sure that LW's allowed through the Norton firewall. Click on this link for info about how to configure the Norton firewall: PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall and also http://www.gnutellaforums.com/226610-post6.html Try the fixes in the thread below (click on link). They're not too confusing & the harder ones have detailed instructions. If nothing there helps, post back with your system details....at the bottom of that help thread there's a link about system details - click on that link & you'll see a list of the other details that we need. If you're not sure of some info, just do the best you can:) An important detail is the brand & model of your modem/router... if nothing's showing on top of the router, turn it upside down & the info should be underneath. If Birdy's advice doesn't work try this -- obviously you have updated to this version of LW -- when using nortons firewall and you have changed your version of LW you have to reset your configuration to re allow LW full access again -- go into your nortons firewall and delete the current configuration which allows LW access. To reconfigure your settings in Nortons 360 do this:- Go to Tasks & Settings -> Change Advanced Settings -> Firewall Protections Settings -> Firewall Program Rule (tab) Look for the LW program in there and make sure the access drop down menu is set to 'Allow'. then click 'Apply' Note: Only run 1 firewall software program -- switch off your windows firewall as this will cause conflicting problems with nortons 360 and reduce your computer security instead of enhancing it. |
