![]() I purchased this back in 2004-2005. Its worked great until about 6 months ago. Suddenly stopped connecting. LW shows an error that says I don't have an internet connection or a firewall is blocking it. The only active firewall is in my router and I've done what the sticky says to do to allow LW to connect.I've tried all the connection solutions in the sticky area except for downloading a fresh version. My step-daughter brought her laptop with her several weeks ago and she couldn't connect either, but it connects when she is at home. My ISP has changed hands several times since then, therefore my email address has changed also. I don't remember which one I had at the time of the order and I don't have the original email either. Is there any other way to find my account so I can redownload a fresh copy? |

![]() Back in 2004/5, buying Pro entitled you to free updates for 6 months after purchase. So your Pro's well & truly out of date. Sorry, but you'd need to buy Pro again if you want to download a Pro installer. Unless you have your Pro installer saved, installing a basic version would mean that you'd lose your Pro completely ![]() If you originally bought Pro from a scam site offering some 'lifetime membership' then your email address would never have been in the official database. Membership? - **BEWARE** - Download p2p Clients ONLY Thru Official Sites (click on link) Is this the connection problems sticky that you've been looking at? If LW 4 Will Not Connect Did you replace the gnutella.net file? Were there any fixes that you had trouble with? We need your system details ![]() |

![]() I bought it directly from the limewire website. I could care less about updates, it was working fine until several months ago. My email address was in the database at one point because I had to redownload it once already, but that was a couple years ago. Update....found my installer. Reinstalled and it still won't connect. I think my ISP is blocking. 1. OS version? Windows XP SP2 2. What firewalls you have? Only the one on the router 3. How much ram? 1G 4. Hard Disk space available? 50G 5. Connection type? cable 6. ![]() I only gave you info about Pro updates because you asked about downloading a fresh copy of Pro. LW don't keep old installers for download (apart from the last LW 4.18.8) & so if you wanted a Pro installer, you'd need to have current benefits to download. AFAIK Comcast aren't blocking p2p any more - use Google to search for Comcast blocking p2p & you'll find info about the lawsuit etc. And if your test worked then it indicates that LW's default port isn't being blocked. But regardless of that - did you try any different listening ports in the recommended range? Does every computer on your LAN use a different listening port for LW? If each computer is using LW then they'll need to have different listening ports. And if port forwarding's in place then they'll each need their own static IP address & port forwarding rules within the router setup. After you deleted LW's preferences folder, did you have to go through the setup wizard again? Did you have any problems with replacing the gnutella.net file? Before you set up port forwarding, did you set up a static IP address? PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall And did you use these instructions for port forwarding?: Port Forwarding for the Belkin F5D9230-4 |

![]() Well if they give better advice, it's your money. ![]() I do know Belkin devices generally need to be port forwarded. And the usual problem with setting up port forwarding is the very first step (this is where most people make mistakes). If that's not done correctly then the entire process needs to be removed & repeated from scratch. That first step is setting up a static ip address. You will most likely need to reboot the computer after port forwarding. Setting up a static ip address for Windows XP. (BTW the static ip address should normally be a similar number to the router's address. But instead of eg: 192.168.2.1 which the router uses .. the static ip address should be something like 192.168.2.5 and 192.168.2.6 for next computer on network, etc.) Also ensure you do NOT have more than one software firewall! All Windows from XP onward have a software firewall. Find the settings for it in the Control panels. Setting up an exception for LimeWire in your software firewall (click in link) BTW sometimes one version of LW does not run well on particular set ups. So it 'might' be worth trying a different version. Try the 2nd link (Older LW Installers) in this link for example: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...lw-4-18-a.html) Last edited by Lord of the Rings; March 27th, 2009 at 01:34 PM. |
