I have been trying to get connected to LW 5 for days now. I have tried everything. I had LW 4 but started having connection problems with that so decided to uninstall and reinstall LW5. I am Running Windows XP. Already Disabled firewalls. When I check under advanced tools it says I have a firewall and do not support firewall transfers. When I click on the why link next to it it says becaue I have an Invalid external Address? HELP!? Thank you!!

Confused

I've tried everything on the connection problem page. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong....here are the questions you needed answered.

1. Windows XP
2. Windows firewall only
3. 520 mb ram
4. ( how do I check?)
5. Broadband/Cable
6. Arris - TM602g
7. Connecting from home ( not wireless)
8. LW 5.1.2 and Java 1.6.0_12
9. Time Warner Cable
10. Says "Your test worked"
11. No connection to any other p2p or other computers
12. I've had Limewire for years....just upgraded to 5.1.2 because I was having connection problems with LW4 recently
13. Says I have a firewall...and an invalid external address
14. UPnP enabled
15. Cyber Defender
16. USA
17. upgraded my version of LW. Nothing else has changed with my set up or computer.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

Did you update your Java? The latest version's JRE 6 update 13.

Do you have a router as well as the modem?

In LW go tools > options > advanced > super really advanced > proxy. Make sure 'no proxy' is ticked (unless you're using a proxy!) > ok.

After you deleted LW's preferences folder, did you go through LW's setup wizard all over again?

My Java is completely up to date.
I don't have a router.
I'm not using a proxy, and it is checked next to no proxy in LW.
I'm not sure about the preferences folder....what do I need to do for this again?

any other suggestions?

Thank you!

I'm really sorry - I forgot to include the instructions for deleting the prefs folder in the help thread that I linked to The info's there now. Again - sorry about that

Quite odd. I wonder if the above software is related to this somehow. Purely a surmising thought.

Deleting the LW preferences folder (but LW must be closed at that time): http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...tml#post183932

BTW you should not need to turn your XP firewall off. Simply add LW as an exception. Setting up an exception for LimeWire in your software firewall (click in link)

LW 5 should recreate it's own fresh gnutella.net file after you delete the preferences folder. (With LW 4 you may need to download a gnutella.net file)

Try this, go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> SuperReallyAdvanced, Filtering & uncheck option to use LW's Blacklist. If still no improvement see below.

Go back to SuperReallyAdvanced, Performance & disable all options on that page.

If still no good again, SuperReallyAdvanced, Firewall & set to Manual Port Forward. Set both the listen & connection ports to something between 49152 - 65535 such as 64049. See if that helps.

Java can 'sometimes' be responsible for connection issues with LW. You could always reinstall it. Download the Offline version, then uninstall all the versions you have. Then install the offline version. Java Downloads for All Operating Systems - Sun Microsystems (15.53 MB). We normally recommend running Crap Cleaner after uninstalling Java & before reinstalling it to clean your registry (Crap Cleaner is safe & recommended by most reliable tech forums). Tips on using it here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html

You're free to use BearShare, or Phex which is a great program. The later BearShare versions cannot download much of value due to their new owners working side by side with the authorities. Or even perhaps downgrade back to LW 4.

But from what I read about that spyware program you are using, from user responses also after googling around, I certainly wouldn't use it. There's lots of safe Spyware programs around such as Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE) & for adware ad-ware (FREE).

(The wrong/invalid ip address .. made me wonder if it was interference from CyberDefender Early Detection Center, since it seems contact is continually going to & from their organisation.)

According to LW staff, the message you received means with LW 5: Invalid external address: LW is behind a NAT or firewall and could only discover the NAT or firewall's internal address, which is no use for handing out to other peers.

Thus does suggest a firewall issue somewhere.

Have you tried going to the back of the Arris - TM602g & resetting using a paperclip or similar?
