What is it about this thread?

My sincerest apologies that my reaction to your post may seem a little hash but, "What have you read in this thread that suggests you experience to be an error?" I have quite clearly stated that it is a commonplace and natural outcome of excessive traffic and toplological instability on Gnutella that most searches will fail during downloading and require positive action on the part of downloaders to rescue the attempt. Self-help is now the order of the day. If, however, you are not interested in working to get your downloads and you want a few months of laid-back downloading, go back to whichever version of Limewire you were using before. Earlier versions of Limewire are kept available just for this situation (as you would have known if you have browsed through other threads).

I am running Windows 2000 w/Limewire 2.9.8. Since upgrading to 2.9.8 I have had VERY LITTLE success downloading anything. I get," could not download, awaiting sources." Meanwhile i have users downloading songs from my database. I have tried some of the searching techniques i have read on the threads. Nothing works. Now Limewire wants me to reup my download page and pay again. I never had this problem with the earlier versions. Does anyone have any fixes for this problem or another program that actually works. I am tired of making my songs available and not getting the same back. What a waste of time this has turned out to be. Whatever happened to the good old days of Napster. Those guys had that system working great.

Had same problem w/ Win2K + LW 2.9.8 upgrade.

LW was 'all I had ever known'.

My advice: Rather than try to figure out and understand why LW won't work, simply download Shareaza and enjoy life again. It's slicker than LW (IMO) and there's no setup required.

Enjoy!

I have os 9.1.1 and since upgrading I to cannot download a single song. David91...that means NOTHING...NIl...ZERO. So all the patience in Gods beautiful creation cannot get me music with this program....and yes, you are sarcastic...very. people come here for help not attitude!!

I am going back to 2.7.

RomanHans June 4th, 2003 08:22 PM

Ditto for me. Where do we find 2.7?

picchetto June 7th, 2003 10:22 AM

Know what you mean, it's bloody frustrating isn't it!!

Sarcastic one back again!

Well, all I can say is that my experience does not match yours, which may or may not be significant but, without information on which machines you are using, what OS you have, what internet connection you have and which version of Limewire you are using, it is difficult to offer anything other than broad-stroke advice. If you want to go back, LW 2.7 is no longer available. The developers are trying to move everyone on to the more recent versions. I remember having reasonable success with this version: http://www3.limewire.com/download/2.8.6/

I hope you have better luck with that. However, that you are not managing to get "any" results from Limewire does suggest more general machine or internet connection problems. As a matter of interest, are you private users at home (and, if so, have you enabled port 6346?) or are you on a LAN (in which case, what is your system administrator's formal QoS policy for p2p application users?).

so we are still screwed

Has anyone found a solution??

I am running Limewire 2.9.11 Pro on windowsME

I've been using Limewire for about 3 years with great success, but I am losing my patience. Since upgrading from 2.8, it is crashing on a regular basis and now this "could not download" thing.

What's up with the Limewire developers? There's alot of people with the same issue.

I have copies of 2.3.3 and 2.6.3 if any one wants to go back to the older versions.

I may do that myself.

This Might Help!! (MAC)

I read this entire thread hoping for an answer to the same problem. The only thing that made most sense was to reinstall the older version. However, Limewire doesn't seem to make that readily available. What I did was to go into the "other" Installers" section on their main downlaod table. There you will find a version called MAC OS (no VM). This installs the bare app without messing with your default MJR version. Its been working for me all day!!!! I also trashed all traces of the old Limewire app to be safe. Try It! Good Luck!!
