That's because all WinMX downloads have auto find sources every 10 ~ 15 mins. option turned on by default.
The userbase of OpenNap network (that's what WinMX is on, right?) seems to be about the same as the Gnutella network to me, maybe a bit smaller. For Japanese files, WinMX definately has a larger userbase.

Kazaa

Well, I now have Kazaa. Yesterday I discovered a miracle product called 'Kazoom'. Not only can I get some things to download completely, but if I get 'more sources' Kazoom will keep resuming until it downloads. It also helps to find more stuff when you search. When something starts to download, Kazoom will make sure it finishes. I don't know if there is anything like this for other download programs but it wouldn't hurt to look. I really love it as I can actually download stuff now.

Ode To The Rainbow Coloured Hammerer !

What you are describing is, in fact, a true disaster for any p2p network...
Why ?
Because it is so 'aggressive'.
Using and wasting enormous bandwidth.
It may be nice for you as the 'taker', but consider how you would feel if you were the 'sharer' and your bandwidth was being hammered away at in such a manner.

There are many, many reasons why you may receive the 'dreaded' "Need More Sources"... Far too many to go into now.
But, remember that this is NOT a grocery store or petrol station where you have a right to assume availability on demand.
This is a hobby... Something that far too many people forget.

btw, in the past 4 days I have D/Led 9 files that I have had pending for over 2 months... If it's a file of some sort that you need within a specific time frame... Guess what ?

Go buy it. Or copy it at the library. Or rent it...
p2p for fun ain't no railroad with a timetable !!!

p.s. If you are finding yourself getting all of these desired files practically on demand through Kazaa, might I suggest that you install a cooling fan for your anti-virus app. ???
:p

You go girl!:D

Btw, have any of you tried re-searching the files to download? Whenever I get this message (the kiss of death thingy) I click the find more sources button and reinitiate the download, and I kinda get the filling that this helps a GRREEEEEEEAT deal. Personaly, I've never had any problems with this even though I download some pretty rare files, and this "trick" seems to have helped a lot fo' me

Auto-find sources would create incentive for users to keep their clients running over longer periods of time, hence improving the health of the network. Without an "auto-find sources every n minutes" feature, users would restart LimeWire more often because LimeWire does auto-finds sources only at the start of a download and on restart of LimeWire.

From my usage experience, auto-find sources is something that just work, and LimeWire doesn't have it. Doesn't LimeWire even block other clients on the network that try to do this? Which is more of a true disaster -- LimeWire that does auto-find sources once every week or a LimeWire with users clicking "find more sources" every split second?

!!!

Agreed.

btw, you may note that the most recent iterations of BearShare have a very much altered Find More Sources action.

Very effective but soft and gentle...

Now I shut up because I don't approve of moderators mentioning one client in another client's forum.

Hey, we never found out if the Rainbow Coloured Hammerer DOES have a fan on her a-v app. !!!

It seems like I was wrong about LimeWire and auto-find sources because LimeWire already seems to do this --- "Does retries and resumes automatically" according to
the ManagedDownloader Javadoc.

Also, a line from the "MessagesBundle.properties" reads: "DOWNLOAD_STATUS_FAILED=Awaiting Sources" which seems to mean that when the downloader goes into a GAVE_UP state, it displays "Awaiting Sources" next to the failed download item.

Actually, I'm on your side and would look around to see what works....I have actually had much better luck through kazaa and emule as well. I don't want to get into a flame-throwing contest, but I'm just a little worked up about my "need more sources" situation with limewire. I have to say one thing and that is no, I didn't need a "cooling fan for my anti-virus app." for the 2 years I have been using kazaa. All computer/technical jargon aside, I hope no one "FORGETS" that we BOUGHT this service. If it is just a "hobby" and I'm not gauranteed anything, then don't charge me 20 bucks (and that would include the annoying "upgrade to pro" pop-up for ANOTHER 20 bucks)! I downloaded and PAID for this service for the same resons everyone else did-----so I didn't have to spend $12 to $15 for the CD...whomever posted the last scathing message about this problem has a set of crystals to imply that I should go elsewhere for it after limewire has now received a non-refundable payment from me...That's like walking into a "petrol station", giving the clerk 20 dollars, only to have them say they are out of gas as you sit there with the option of going elsewhere or waiting a month for their next shipment of gasoline...

Nope, no one fergits it.
But what you must understand is that paying for the software is only meant as a contribution to the project, meaning that you could have downloaded the FREE app instead of the pro one and still have the exact same app (aside from some additional ads).
You shouldn't have hurried on to buy something that you didn't know how well it worked (on YOUR machine) and stuff since there was a free version available.
As it is widely said throughout these forums, Limewire has diverse performances depending on the machine.

Right...
Firstly I am amazed that you can write this back as a 'reply'.
I won't go into the fact that you are a 'super moderator' as I have just come on here for the first time with a similar problem to the above, and judging by both the first two moderators responses on this thread... well 'super' should be replaced with another s word with 4 letters.

Anyway, this is a serious issue as I have just upgraded recently to LW Pro 3.8.6 and am not able to d/l anymore. This is both with ****-* users and modem to T3 & above connections.
What happens is that after 15sec's of d/l'ing the connection just cuts to 'need more sources'.
And you sure as hell can't get it started again!!

Another thing to mention to user Murasame: Okay it is a donation, BUT THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BENEFIT YOU, OR REWARD YOU ALSO! - I now cannot d/l ANYMORE files since i have upgraded and have posted this news with various p2p newsgroups so the same doesn't happen to them.

Finally, I think Urusla is far too up herself and should post messages that would actually _help_ users, not waste our time!!!

p.s. Kazaa has also brought me no problems (especially if you have kazaa lite) and soul seek is also excellent.
