sebkarlsson--you owe Ursula and murasame an apology. Your claim they haven't helped is grossly unfounded. Ursula uploads ~4 GB /day and has helped thousands more in this and other forums. You sir, are ignorant.

If you have any credibility in other forums and posted a some kind of rationalization of leechers, please advise which forums. No wonder so many ISP's and network managers are trying to kill p2p because of irresponsible leechers.

gnutella was severly rocked for almost six months by greedy clients. Compare the numbers for Jan 2003 with today. The graph no longer shows the highs of 500,000 users in the previous year. Currently, the network has slowly recovered, but at the cost of giving up the very desired automatic researching. Now connections from clients who will not upload to the network are being rightly refused. If this has hurt your p2p experience, good. Go away. If you are a legitimate uploader who would like help from the VOLUNTEERS here with specific problems, post your specifics.

As for donating--LW allows anyone to compile their own client--for FREE. I can use several, but continue to 'pay' for Pro every six months--as a donation to this ongoing project.

Gad--the righteous confidence of selfish ignorance.

There. I needed that. /end rant. Carry on.

Fair enough@Stief

Point taken - When I wrote earlier I had not been on these message boards before, and did admitantly explode.

I take back that I think Ursula's super should be replaced with s*** moderator! :)

I stand by the fact, however, that the post was unconstructive.
The specifics of my problem are that I have been getting plenty of search results to any search I have run, yet after trying each of the files, found that they download stops between 5-15secs.
This seems to be either a connection or program issue as it is regular as clockwork, and doesn't seem to rely on the user I attempt to d/l from.
Now, I currently share around 2,200 files on limewire, after having changed this 2 weeks ago (just after problems started) from above 10,000 files... I know this is better than most users, so I hope that this has not been the issue! I usually upload around 20 files per day on limewire, 50 with soulseek and less with kazaa.
Anyway, that's pretty much it with specifics!

Again point taken on the fact that my statement was ignorant, but I do stand by the fact that the previous moderators' posts were unconstructive, if not further argumentative.

Bottom line is nevertheless, that Limewire gets excellent search results nearly every time, and problems that restrict the use are extremely aggravating.

OK. I apologize for suggesting you were a leecher, but profoundly disagee with your perception of Ursula's posts. Ursula is often the peacemaker, and did point out that BearShare has instituted an automatic searcing of sorts (which has already flooded the source of one file so I can't get it this weekend). I think those posts spoke constructively to the issue, but everyone who helps knows how frustrating inconsistent/non-existent downloads can be.

Anyway--shall we continue?

If your firewall/router or elsewhere upstream does not allow incoming connections on the port of your choice (default is 6346), you can receive results but will need to depend on a third, proxy, computer to get the download going ("Push Requests" I think they are called).

Are you able to accept incoming connections? Look in the preferences (Tools->Options) for the bug report setting, and see the sample bug report. There should be a line saying "Received incoming this session: true"

Oh my !!!

Dear sebkarlsson,

First, I try, as a rule, to not respond to posts such as yours... But, you lucky person... I am going to make a special exception just for you...
Why ?
Because you are talking nonsense.
Every word that I wrote in re: the comments from Rainbow Girl were simple facts... Especially as they relate to the Gnutella Network.
I will be happy to repeat them and will promise you that there will be many experienced users who would support every word of those comments.

Next...
Neither you nor Rainbow Girl had posted one syllable or vowel that could in any way shape or form indicate what specific problems you are posting to complain about.

There is not one word from either of you that would give anyone a single clue as to what computer or Operating System either of you may be running.

There is not one word of anything specific related to the foundations of your 'complaints'.

Neither of you actually asked any questions
related to any specific problem(s).

The posts from Rainbow Girl are no more than out of date canned spam.

...................

In fact, the comments I made are most constructive if they are understood to be a condensing of some of the serious problems inflicted by the few upon the many within p2p communities.

btw... The 'Super' bit in the moderator status thing - which I did NOT choose for myself - simply refers to the fact that I, along with some other mods here, are not... NOT allied to any specific client... Instead, we are free to roam and rampage through all forums... even in the dark little corners where the trolls hang out !!!
This is a thread getting to be more and more like one of those little hangouts, don't you think ?

Gosh, and poor little full of myself me only manages to U/L an average 1,000 files per 24hrs... Guess yours must be real biggun's, huh ?

Look, most of us around here are sick and tired of crap posts comparing unlike with unlike...
It says "Gnutella Forums" on the door... Right ?

Most of us have heard the absurd litanies over Kazaa for far too long... Not interesting...
Now, you're not the first, and won't be the last, to come in here with exactly the same old worn lines...

Try something a bit fresher and maybe a post or two that actually says something concrete.

stief, and I and many others are more than happy to try to help...
But...

Be good, 'urs'... be good !!!
