Corrupt Files Setting

It seems that 50% of my downloads are detected as "currupt file" and limewire automatically stops the download. I did click "stop download, remember my answer" and now I wish to change that to ignore detected corrupted files so that it will continue downloading. I've uninstalled and deleted the limewire folder and reinstalled several times but the settings must be stored elsewhere. I could not find the option to change corrupt file settings either. Where do I go / what do I do to modify this setting?

sberlin March 10th, 2004 09:21 PM

Go to Tools -> Options, View -> Popups, and choose to forget your stored answers.

We'll be adding an easy-to-see "restore to factory defaults" option in the settings area for the next release.

This does work I had the same problem.

bobbola May 31st, 2004 04:27 AM

where is tools/options/view/popups?

On the Limewire Tools Menu, these headings do not appear. So where are they and how can I reach all those corrupt files. Also, when I try to delete them from my library, is there a way to delete them all at once? I haven't been able to do that and the alternative takes forever.

Fungi14 June 14th, 2004 01:42 AM

To delete all at onse

Click on first file

if they are not in order:

Hold control and click each corrupt file

if they are

Hold shift and click last corrupt file

then:

right click somewhere in the highlighted area

click delete

___________

HOW/WHAT specifies a file as corrupt?

Deleting library files

I have tried deleting many files from the library at once and the ctrl hold down feature does work for me. So I tried it this way. Go to your Shared folder and hold the ctrl button down as you click the files you want to delete. When done delete them. Now go back to your LimeWire library and click "refresh" the deleted files should disappear. Also works for the incomplete folder.

Hope it helps

corrupt...

If I keep downloading a file that Limewire has said is "corrupt," then will this hurt my computer? I also have the problem of at least 50% of my downloads being "corrupt." What does this mean? And how do I stop it?

Justified Ancient of MuMu October 7th, 2004 06:36 AM

Bugger! I've been having this problem too, it's what I came here wondering if there was an answer to. I've been using Limewire as a freebie client for years but ever since I paid up for the full deal a few weeks ago this started happening. It only seems to be on really popular songs. I was getting paranoid and wondering if the record companies had figured out a way to screw us (as we screw them I guess) out of out free downloads. Perhaps that IS it!

Conspiracy theory or technical hitch? Which is it and HOW DO WE FIX IT??

Justified Ancient of MuMu October 7th, 2004 07:05 AM

OK, as I've now established, and hopefully so have you, in another topic ("Every file is corrupt?") this IS a conspiracy and we're being messed around by "T3 or Higher" connections all (or at least nearly all) or which have dud files to make us sad.

What I've discovered, in the 5 minutes since identifying the problem, as a good answer to this is, every time you do a search get the list of results to compile according to speed, "T3 or higher" at the top of the list. Then work your way down and, using a Mac on OSX (I'm sure there's an equivalent on PC's) control click each highly rated result and select "Block Host".

Do this a couple of times and all those nasty corrupt file harbouring entities simply disappear from your search result listings.

Bliss!

Every file that I now try to download is saying that it is corrupt....WTF!!! I have the pro version and I am really pissed that I cannot download any songs. Can someone please help? I can't even find any tech support phone numbers!

calebu2001 October 17th, 2004 06:11 PM

curropt file

this is a load of crap that these *** bags with extremely high internet connections can shag us lowly un rich folks. im thinking all the T3 connections must be corporate *** bags from the music industry just trying to make our lives misserable. i was downloading all the new stuff for about a week and now this crap. i say if someone has T3 then they are trying to shag and sitting back laghing so delete their memberships and send them packing

Justified Ancient of MuMu October 17th, 2004 11:42 PM

I noticed the other day that my preferences had been set to only search for T3 or Higher, which I cannot in my wildest dreams imagine choosing myself. Is it possible that these mysterious T3 industry backed suppliers of corrupt files have managed to attach a virus that changes preferences or have I just gone insane one night and clicked this by accident? (It's not impossible, just unlikely but then so are lots of things that happen in my life). It would make sense if they did, since that's the speed they are operating on and with this option selected all I EVER got was listings of T3 supplied corrupt files. Once I set it back to accepting all speeds I've got no shortage of genuine files to choose from again from T1's on down.

Oh, and by the way, I now routinely use the excellent launch facility with any music file downloads when the file is a few percent downloaded. This quickly alerts me to a corrupt file as those don't play anything and the progress bar skips to the end within a second or so - so I can kill the download and not waste my time with it.

calebu2001 October 20th, 2004 07:18 AM

Corrupt Files

Ok so i posted my last rant and rave 2 days ago. since then i have downloaded about 100 songs without a single problem, listen to them and the quality is excellent. i have come to the conclusion that all the T3 files are curropt. we can sit and talk about conspiracy theories all day long but the fact of the matter is that the only time we all have problems downloading is when we try and download off of a T3 user. So down with the T3 users, dont download from them and you should be allright.

davergr October 22nd, 2004 11:43 AM

I'm having the same problem with corrupt files only mine is with any speed. It only started happening when I upgraded to 4.0.8. This should not be happening at all. I have been a faithfull user almost since the beginning and have been paying faithfully for Pro for a while now. Can't someone look into this like FAST.

Also, with this new version, it seems like the program does not connect automatically like it did before. I have to connect manually. If it does connect on it's own it takes forever to get up to turbocharged. What's up with that?

Another problem, on some downloads it finishes (99%) then starts over downloading from the same source. This never happened before. ANSWERS PLEASE!

Northwoods Night Owl October 24th, 2004 03:38 PM

EVERY file is CORRUPT lately!

All of the sudden, I'm in the same boat where every song, every file, every attempt downloads and when I go to play it, it's 1/2 hour long and silent OR I learn that it's corrupt AFTER I've waited hours to get it.

I live where Jesus lost his shoes so the squirrels running the wheels for our dial-up is the fastest connection I can get:( Imagine my frustration! FYI: Mac G4 OSX 10.3.4, gig+ ram...

Lord of the Rings October 24th, 2004 03:52 PM

EVERY file is CORRUPT lately!

Hey I only less than 2 weeks ago swapped over from dial-up, I know very well how frustrating it can be.

There has bee a recent discussion about T3 users offering corrupt files, be they representing the music/video industry or the RIAA, just stay clear of those connetions if possible! To find out more, do a forum search for T3 connections or similar, such as RIAA.

LW does this because it either missed some part of the file, so it has to go back and try to dwl the rest. Or part of the file is corrupt, and it is trying again to dwl that part.

wtf r corrupt files nd how do u stop it?!? like when try nd download a certain song, none of them work. oh yea... how do u kno which games nd stuf nd genuine nd wil atually work?!? rite bac! thnx

Lord of the Rings October 28th, 2004 09:56 AM

Try reading the thread befoe you post. Try http://bitzi.com/ & look up what you want; '... a place where we can all discuss bad files...'

Fuggle October 28th, 2004 11:47 AM

Ok, I get it about the t3s, but I only get t3 results. No cable, no modem, no t1 results. If I don't go or the t3s I have nothing. How do I get rid of the t3 results and get everyone else?

Rhythm Earthsong October 31st, 2004 03:34 PM

Following the thread about the increase in corrupt files, it appears the consensus is that it's either a T3 or higher conspiracy (so just avoid T3 or higher) or bad programming that is now fixed in Limewire beta 4.1.7 (posted on 10/28 by Curiosity). But supervisor LordOfRings posted even after Curiosity's post, and he did not verify whether beta 4.1.7 really is the fix (instead directing us to bitzi.com, which is very rich in content but I couldn't easily find the answer there either). So is there a clear answer or not? I've had a large increase in corrupt files (for example, almost every one from Green Day's American Idiot and Brian Wilson's Smile) at a variety of speeds, not just T3 but T1 and Cable/DSL too. And if Curiosity is accurate about 4.1.7 being the fix, where can one download it? The Limewire home page currently shows 4.0.8 as the latest version and doesn't seem to offer this later beta.

Lord of the Rings October 31st, 2004 03:42 PM

Try to stay away from dwnlding from T3 sources. Most corrupt files seem to originated from those sources! Also before choosing to dwnld, make a note of the file's bitrate & size. I've noticed that sometimes the T3 mp3's will show different bitrates but same size which doesn't make sense! The larger the bitrate, the larger the file should be. But you'll have greater chances of not getting corrupt files if you choose modem, cable/dsl, or T1. Sure modem are a bit slower but there's many more of them & they're reliable files in general.

Rhythm Earthsong October 31st, 2004 04:12 PM

Hey, Lord Of Rings, thanks for replying to me (I'm assuming it was meant for me 'cause you replied just 8 minutes after I posted). I will avoid T3s if that's really the answer, check bitrates, try Modem, etc. but you didn't yet comment on Curiosity's assertion that Limewire beta 4.1.7 eliminates the problem. If not, then I guess he was off-base and we're stuck just trying your above suggestions. If he was accurate, please respond as to where 4.1.7 can be found and downloaded. Thanks again!

Lord of the Rings October 31st, 2004 04:27 PM

LW 4.1.7 has been replaced by 4.1.8 just a few days ago & can be found with links from here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...5&pagenumber=1
Pro users can dwnld it from their personal dwnld page (at bottom of page).
I'm not sure about the beta being able to fix the problem. Perhaps they can I'm not sure about that. The beta page or history page of beta releases will probably say something about this.

DL problems

I am having the same problem as everyone else about the downloading of files. Every time a DL a file it is corrupt. WTF. I really like LW, it helped me find a song that is so old my great grandmother listened to it. I am a student at a Tech school and we use and internet connection speed that makes T3 look like a turtle (it is second in the nation in connection speed, and only slower then the national defense connection speed) All my files I share are complete and none of them are corrupt. I don't think that it is the T3 connection, I believe that it is the interface btw the speed of the connection and the program LW (a bug within LW) Please fix this ASAP. thanks.

Lord of the Rings November 1st, 2004 11:26 AM

Interesting thoughts. Let's just say I & most others who have observed this issue would greatly disagree. I have taken request from a pm to research this issue & found that indeed, the problem was with T3; see: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=28801 Look around this forum & search for the word corrupt. Everything points to T3. You're lucky to have such a good connection.

m0bsta November 10th, 2004 04:35 PM

Why is it that every single song I download (about 100 so far) does NOT work? They are all corrupt. How do I UNCORRUPT them before I blow it up? This is something I paid for to use and I can't use it. Pretty aggravating. Please help me.

Maybe it's just THOSE FILES. Have you tried searching for it, and start downloading it from a different spot?

You'd download that one because it's the same exact thing, just by a different user. It could just be the supplier's fault, not yours.

It might not be Limewire. You could have adware from other websites that you've been to. Try downloading Ad-Aware.

Why can't I find a phone number to call and complain? For example, I have downloaded every single song from one singer and NONE OF THEM WORKED.

m0bsta November 12th, 2004 06:54 AM

What is the big freakin deal? Why isn't someone working on it to fix the damn thing?

Lord of the Rings November 12th, 2004 07:27 AM

Why not read the suggestions about what to do. It's not a LW issue. If people are offering corrupt files, then just avoid those addresses. Search the forum & you'll find more advice. Do a search for corrupt or T3's.

RIDman November 13th, 2004 10:13 PM

All you foolish noobs really did not figure out my now that it is anti piracy people sending you bad chunks of data to nuke you files yet huh?

scrumpy jack November 16th, 2004 01:22 AM

I have been having the same problem with "corrupt files" and have noticed that even though the music track previews o/k, it gets to 99% downloaded and starts all over again until it eventually reports "corrupt file" again. Was working fine up until yesterday when i downloaded a lot of music - then almost everything I tried came back with a corrupt file - bloody frustrating!
I have now removed limewire completely (and I mean completely, run a search for any file containing Limewire and delete the lot, as well as uninstalling limewire. also check in file registry entries etc...)
Downloaded beta version and installed it, seems to be working O/K at the moment... first few tracks I'd been struggling with before are now downloaded (But I am taking the advice and avoiding T3 connections...)

RyanH November 26th, 2004 05:40 PM

Nice Try BUt...

I believe, that it is in fact "T3 or Higher" that are the corrupted files or the vast magority, However when I search for a song Thats all the results I get is "T3 or Higher" I rarely get any connection other then that in my results. If I other connections did apear it would only have maybe 1 or 2 files, so is there any way I can search for files and come up with other then the "T3 or Higher" level???

ysk December 3rd, 2004 10:53 AM

t3? no.. everything i have ever tried to download so far. everything, all corrupt. this is ruining my life

Lord of the Rings December 3rd, 2004 11:11 AM

Update your Java & check you've allowed LW access thru your firewalls & modem/routers. Dwnld packets can potentially get damaged if passing thru firewalls. Sounds like something is not giving your dwnld data total free access & is acting like an antibody so to speak.

TheJackal December 6th, 2004 09:40 AM

I'm only getting about 10% or less of the files I want. The rest are corrupt. LimeWire used to be so good, but now I cant get hardly anything none corrupt...

Xaiano December 7th, 2004 08:09 PM

I have downloaded a file it claims is corrupt. It seems fine to me when i preview it.

Obviously it is in a temp file somewhere.

Where will the file be? I want to save it.

ysk December 9th, 2004 02:04 PM

thanks for answering my post. could be a firewall problem seeing as we have mcafee but i'm hardly an it technician and get nervous about toying with things i dont really get.. its my dads pc and he will stamp on my head if i break anything. really want to use lw though so any advice would be much appreciated
