File Downloaded, but cannot play

Hi, I hope I'm putting this question in the right category.

I downloaded some audio files in mp3 format - some play, while most of them do not ... are they just bad files and I should just try finding other files? I am using Windows media player to play them. They are around 3MB in size, thanks!!!!

I have windows xp on a dell 600m inspiron
No firewalls
almost 30 G left of free space
cable at 100.0Mbps trying to connect from home
no routers
LW 4.18.3
Beijing, China
