Lord of the Rings has a distinguished reputation

A player I know that does not allow internet connections via audio files with URL links is one called VLC - (click on link), which is both a video player and can be used as an audio player.

It is a highly reliable player of files, though it is basic in design.

It's great to use for obtaining streaming video or audio online also.
