From memory CA security suite contains a spyware program that identifies p2p programs as having spyware even when they do not (it will attack the program & damage it). You will need to reinstall FW. And, put FW on that spyware program's safe list. Found it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PestPatrol previously called PestPatrol is anti p2p software. Simply search the word PestPatrol on these forums to get some history on it. ;) BTW CA has a colorful history lol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CA,_Inc. |
Okay well now I uninstalled CA because it was giving me constant update problems anyway but FW still gives the same problem I now have AVG free so is there any setting I need to change on that to get it to work? |
I haven't used AVG myself though some people on the forums recommend it. They'd know best how to configure it. Basic idea is to go to the AVG firewall exceptions rules & create a fresh one for FrostWire. ;) What is the specific error messages you are receiving? If it's loading problems, see steps 5 & 6 here: Fixes for Limewire/FrostWire (click on blue link) which might be the trick to fix it. Sometimes it's only a small issue like that. |
1 Attachment(s) That's the frustrating thing about it I get no actual error message. what happens is I double click it the logo comes up (as if it is going to load) stays on the screen for about ten seconds and then disappears and the program never loads. What I don't understand is that it had worked fine the first week I had installed it which was the week of June 16 and as far as I can tell I made no major changes to my software that would have affected it. I had CA installed since May 30th which means that FW was running fine with CA installed I tried going back to Limewire but Limewire does the same thing FW is doing. I attached a thumbnail screen cap the logo is all that comes up it stays for only a few seconds without ever loading. |
You uninstalled CA, then re-installed both FW & Java as I suggested in post #9? Again, delete the FW preferences folder whilst the program is closed. Did you try changing compatibility mode to XP, and also both FW & LW must be set to run as Administrator when using Vista (points 5 & 6 in my link in my previous post.) For Vista, it's best to set the installer to run as Admin, then after installing right-click the FW shortcut choose run as Admin also. When you re-installed Java, did you download the Offline installer, then remove all previous Java versions first before re-installing Java & reboot the computer after installing (running CCleaner after removing all previous versions & before reinstalling Java)? |

I also tried the compatibility to XP thing. I lso tried Java 11-13 as well as of course 14 which was the one I had when FW was working and currently switched back to. |
Do you still have CA Anti-Spyware on your computer? Whilst it is a good spyware program, p2p sharing programs do not run happily beside it. There are lots of alternatives to CA Anti-Spyware. Personally I use Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE) with a few other security utilities. And there's at least a couple other good ones also I could give you the links to. |
Hi minimoongirl1119, Try installing FW to a different folder. Check out proxy00's advice here (refers to LW but do the same for FW): FIX: LimeWire won't start or closes immediately If that's no help, try this older java (JRE 6u5): Archive: Download Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE) 6u5 As usual - download the JRE offline installer, remove all other Java versions installed on your computer, install & then reboot the computer. |
