Hi guys, I was hoping you could help me out with a challenge I'm faced with.

Basically I want to upload as fast as possible.

I have a few computers running Limewire 4.18.8 Pro on 100 MBit/sec connections, and my files are well seeded. When I upload a file from one of these computers, I get speeds of about 50 kb/sec.

I notice a few other computers are able to deliver files to me at 500-1000 kb/sec.

So I'm wondering 2 things:

1) Does Limewire limit upload speed in the code

2) What do I need to do to get my upload speeds going 10 times faster than they currently are?

Have you done a speed test? Uploading is technologically more difficult than downloading, though this may vary depending on location/country technology, equipment, etc. Choose nearest location for a speed test & only have your browser open: Speed Test Internet Speed Test DSL Speed Test Broadband Speed Test Bandwidth Speed Test

re: file description / tagging, & chat (applies to LW 4 only for chat which can help with sharing.) The more description/tag information your files have, the more chances they will be picked up in searches. Turning on Chat will help you believe it or not, even if you do not wish to chat. Chat messages are rarely sent nowadays anyway.

BTW I have lots of files I share that if not for a description would probably not get uploaded since the filename itself says nothing. The filename sometimes is just a jumble of letters or numbers. But people know what they are via my descriptions.

I did a speed test...I can upload at 126 KB/sec (KiloBytes per second).

What I'm wondering is how do I increase this speed to 1000 KB/sec?

Not sure, upgrade your ISP plan or buy a fast ADSL2 router?

If your speed test says 126, then LW will only get that amount or less unless you get the bandwidth from somewhere.

You said you have a few computers running. Perhaps they are stealing the bandwidth. Also depends on your ISP plan. Some ISP's give separate upload speeds, some DSL plans are tied in with download bandwidth so if download is using up all the bandwidth, not much left over for uploads (similar to how dial up bandwidth works).

When you say upgrade your ISP plan...what would I upgrade?

Go from a 100Mbit line to a 1000Mbit line?

I think that just makes the pipe bigger, not necessarily faster though...

You may need to discuss that issue with some ISP technical staff. My ISP does not advertise speed, simply overall bandwidth totals per month. Whereas in other parts of the world the ISPs advertise speed. Depends on type of ISP plan too I believe. As suggested, some are ADSL, some DSL, some cable, or satellite, etc.
