MacOS9 download sticks on "saving file", no :complete

Just bought LW pro. I can download, LW verifies contents, but then sticks on "saving file" and will not move to "complete" stage.

also: I got an error message which appeared to be sent to LW. I reviewed it and it said contained info on my OS and I think the word "java" somewhere.

I am a basic user at best. Any info greatly appreciated

It should be your Java then. You must uninstall yours and dld and install the latest from www.java.com

Many thanks,

I just downloaded mrj 2.2.5. It's currently uninstalled and sitting on my desktop. How do I find/delete the old java? How do I install the new one? Please bear in mind that, in computer terms, I'm as green as the come.

note: when downloading mrj I got an "unwrapping error". Nothing surprises me anymore. It seems like everything I do results in a new problem. I dont trust myself to do anything, so could deleting my "old" java" and replacing it with 2.2.5. cause any further problems?

sooper frustrated,
Chuck from Canada

Which version of OS 9 do you have, it makes a difference? A different version of Java is required for OS 9.2.1 & earlier.

ie: MRJ 2.2.6 for OS 9.2.2
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120209

MRJ 2.2.5 for OS 8.1-9.2
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75097

Mac version...

from system profiler:
Mac vers. 9.0.4us
4mb disc cache
129mb virtual memory
128mb built in memory
file sharing off

It could be that your RAM is too low.
128? Hmm...
But, before doing anything, redld Java to see if you still get the error.

Thanks to both of you. I just need to find out how to uninstall the existing jave and install the new version. I know that's rookie-stuff so no big deal. I'll figure it out eventually. Thank you again for the help.

Well, I've got mrj 2.2.5 installed and I'm having the same problem.

Not every time, but quite often I get stuck on save as well.

Any other ideas as to what could be causing the problem?

I'm on OS 9.2.2 as well.

Thanks for your help!

Get the most recent version of Java: MRJ 2.2.6 for OS 9.2.2 http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120209 You said you had MRJ2.2.5, maximize your Java version.
By the way, what type of computer (model & cpu, HDD, etc.) do you have & how much ram? Keep i mind Limewire can use copious amounts of ram at times. However in OS 9 u do have control over the max it can use, perhaps it isn't enough!

At your suggestion I've downloaded 2.2.6 and in the "about MRJ 2.2.6" file it states:

"It is recommended that you only update to MRJ 2.2.6 if you need to use Oracle 11i client applications over HTTPS and your Oracle software is properly configured to support HTTPS communication with Mac OS 9 clients."

I'm running OS 9.2.2 on a 333 tray loading iMac w/ a 6 gig hard drive and 288 RAM.

I check my RAM usage periodically and I've never seen it come close to maxing out what I've got available. (It's currently sucking 78.5 MB and I've got 77 MB to spare)

As for it's allocation, shockingly it's "suggested size" is 2048k LOL, but it seems to have no problem drawing whatever it needs whenever it needs it. (don't think I've ever seen it running on less than 50MB)

So, still seems to be a mystery. Any further insights?

Thanks for all of your help.

Dante
