Excellent Grandpa, I have bookmarked this thread for future enquiries...

Hi,

I too am an MSDN subscriber, err more my company than me. We received the RTM CDs for Vista in late Nov (close to the end of the month) from our MS rep, and we were downloading it from MSDN in mid Dec.

I guess I will need to differ with gramps... I am running Vista 32 bit Ultimate, on a P3 933 Mhz machine, 2 gig RAM, and an ATI 9600 Pro with 256 MB. I have Limewire Pro 4.12.11 and have JRE 1.6 (needed it for Citrix).... and Aero is functional... there was no issue installing it, and I do have a firewall in front of the globe and also get turbo connection.

I don't see a compatibility issue with Limewire Pro and Vista Aero (I am assuming that I would not have transparency and 3d Flip if Aero was off).

Sure, you can be turbo charged & have the brick wall (as that example shows). It means people would greatly struggle to upload from you, alias 'leeching the network'. If you're using LW at work then that's probably why. They may well have firewalls blocking incoming for LW. Else, check all possible sources for the firewall; Software firewall & router/modem devices, etc.

The final release of Vista does not have the issue with LimeWire and Aero that RC1 had. Microsoft apparentley fixed the problem.

I am so confused. I just bought a new laptop with Vista and I can't get Limewire to work. I have gone through this thread and tried everything.

I THINK I downloaded Java 6 JRE and I THINK I properly configured the ports on my router for port forwarding and upnp forwarding. Nothing has worked.

At one point I even disabled the windows, mcafee and my linksys router firewalls. When signing in to Limewire it still shows a firewall and I can't connect. The weird thing is whenever Limewire is open, I can't access the internet through my browser.

I have no idea what to do.

I think it's still the case that LW won't use Java 1.6 if there's any other Java versions installed on your computer. That's how it was & is how it is for my windows set up. BTW who is your ISP?

Turn off the Windows Firewall running 2 firewalls is not recommended they can have conflicts with each other. Then follow the instructions in the links below for configuring your Firewall if that doesn't get rid of the brickwall follow the instructions for Port Forwarding your Router.

McAffe http://portforward.com/english/routers/firewalling/McAfee/McAfeeSecurityCenter/LimewireIn.htm

For some reason it wont let me insert 2 links to the same web site just copy and paste the URL into your browser

Linksys http://portforward.com/english/route...LimewireIn.htm

I do not know about your router but with mine you can also set up forwarding for UPnP you just go the application and gaming page and you will see UPnP forwarding. I have found that with different versions of LimeWire this sometimes has to be set up.
