You must be one of the first questions about Vista...:o
We will have to learn from you lol...
I have read about the new security and I know that vista runs explorer 7..
The best advice I could give is check them and try to configure them to allow the LW download..
Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but if you do get it figured out we would love to hear from you, so we can pass it onto others...

Thats not what i wanted to hear lol,Yea,once i get this figured out I will post about it.I hope someone figures this out.Thanks.

Grandpa January 31st, 2007 09:22 PM

You will need to download and install Java 6. I have been running Vista for a while now and using LimeWire but it requires Java 6. Also LimeWire is not compatible with Aero. You can get Java 6 at the link below use JRE

http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

unemplizoid January 31st, 2007 09:25 PM

so do i need to turn aero off, then dl java 6?

Wrona92 January 31st, 2007 09:58 PM

stuckinfirstgear January 31st, 2007 11:46 PM

ok.. you sure it's because of w. vista?

I got a laptop about... 2 months ago with Windows Vista Premium. [lol It says on the sticker on my laptop...]
and I havent had any problems...
Since then I have downloaded The latest macromedia flash, Windows Explorer 7, WMP 10, and Java 6...

many computers don't come with up-to-date software...
... or.. maybe you don't meet the system requirements?

Btw: what's the big fuss avout vista anyways...
The other day I went to a Staples (office supplies store) and they were selling the W. Vista software like lemonade in the desert....

unemplizoid January 31st, 2007 11:50 PM

If im not mistaken, theres no way you have had a lapton with a FULL version of windows Vista. It was just released 2 days ago.

stuckinfirstgear February 1st, 2007 12:18 AM

nope... or.. hmm...
Yeah.. I got it... gateway released it months before I even got it...
I think that it's just now been released to the public for upgrade.

Grandpa February 1st, 2007 04:16 AM

No it wasn't released other than in a beta which is what I have been running. So if you bought a gateway with Vista on it 2 months ago you got ripped off it is either Beta 2 ,RC 1 or RC 2.

Rickk February 2nd, 2007 12:51 PM

Hi,

I am running Vista with Aero on a P3 933MHz machine and Limewire Pro does run on this. Connections are slow to start, but if you wait long enough they do complete (up to 30 mins).

Vista RTM has been available since at least Dec and maybe as earlier as Nov to MSDN subscribers.

Rick

wondering why February 2nd, 2007 12:55 PM

Grandpa has suggested that Limewire is not compatible with Aero...

Rickk February 2nd, 2007 01:07 PM

Hi,

Yes he has...

Rick

Grandpa February 2nd, 2007 02:50 PM

It was released as RTM for developers not for resale no machines have been sold with Vista on the until a couple of days ago. Vista has been Available to MSDN subscribers as a beta not retail for a long time. Which I am a MSDN subscriber. And LimeWire 4.13 is not compatible with Aero and will disable it. I have been running LimeWire with Vista RC1 for months now and have no major problems with it. I did purchase the retail version of Ultimate and am currently running Ultimate x64 and will be installing 4.13 Pro shortly if there is a problem I will work with zab and the other developers to try and help figure out where the problem is.

Grandpa February 2nd, 2007 03:47 PM

I just installed LimeWire Pro 4.13.0 on Windows Vista Ultimate x64. I first tried installing by just clicking on the installer and it hung on installing Java.

I then went to the Java site and downloaded Java 6 x64 version and again tried installing LimeWire once again the LimeWire installer tried to install Java and hung.

I then went back to the Java site and installed Java 6 JRE (32 bit) using the offline installer. I then tried installing LimeWire it installed without any Problems.

When I started LimeWire it showed a firewall in front of the globe and only connected to 2 host. I then checked the windows firewall and made sure it was allowed in the exceptions which it was.

I then configured my router for both port forwarding and upnp forwarding the globe disappeared and I got a turbo connection. I then did a search for a large file and started Downloading a file 200 MB file within 2 minutes I had 10 connections and I am currently downloading the file at 150 KB/s 50% done in 7 minutes so LimeWire works fine with Vista.:xirokrotima: :xeri_ok1ani:

wondering why February 2nd, 2007 04:10 PM

Excellent Grandpa, I have bookmarked this thread for future enquiries...

Rickk February 2nd, 2007 05:08 PM

Hi,

I too am an MSDN subscriber, err more my company than me. We received the RTM CDs for Vista in late Nov (close to the end of the month) from our MS rep, and we were downloading it from MSDN in mid Dec.

I guess I will need to differ with gramps... I am running Vista 32 bit Ultimate, on a P3 933 Mhz machine, 2 gig RAM, and an ATI 9600 Pro with 256 MB. I have Limewire Pro 4.12.11 and have JRE 1.6 (needed it for Citrix).... and Aero is functional... there was no issue installing it, and I do have a firewall in front of the globe and also get turbo connection.

I don't see a compatibility issue with Limewire Pro and Vista Aero (I am assuming that I would not have transparency and 3d Flip if Aero was off).

Rick

Lord of the Rings February 2nd, 2007 05:21 PM

Sure, you can be turbo charged & have the brick wall (as that example shows). It means people would greatly struggle to upload from you, alias 'leeching the network'. If you're using LW at work then that's probably why. They may well have firewalls blocking incoming for LW. Else, check all possible sources for the firewall; Software firewall & router/modem devices, etc.

Grandpa February 2nd, 2007 05:26 PM

The final release of Vista does not have the issue with LimeWire and Aero that RC1 had. Microsoft apparentley fixed the problem.

tsp120 February 3rd, 2007 07:22 AM

I am so confused. I just bought a new laptop with Vista and I can't get Limewire to work. I have gone through this thread and tried everything.

I THINK I downloaded Java 6 JRE and I THINK I properly configured the ports on my router for port forwarding and upnp forwarding. Nothing has worked.

At one point I even disabled the windows, mcafee and my linksys router firewalls. When signing in to Limewire it still shows a firewall and I can't connect. The weird thing is whenever Limewire is open, I can't access the internet through my browser.

I have no idea what to do.

I think it's still the case that LW won't use Java 1.6 if there's any other Java versions installed on your computer. That's how it was & is how it is for my windows set up. BTW who is your ISP?

tsp120 February 4th, 2007 07:17 AM

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
-4.13.0
-1.6

9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)?
-Comcast

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
-Your Test Worked

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
-No

Turn off the Windows Firewall running 2 firewalls is not recommended they can have conflicts with each other. Then follow the instructions in the links below for configuring your Firewall if that doesn't get rid of the brickwall follow the instructions for Port Forwarding your Router.

McAffe http://portforward.com/english/routers/firewalling/McAfee/McAfeeSecurityCenter/LimewireIn.htm

For some reason it wont let me insert 2 links to the same web site just copy and paste the URL into your browser

Linksys http://portforward.com/english/route...LimewireIn.htm

I do not know about your router but with mine you can also set up forwarding for UPnP you just go the application and gaming page and you will see UPnP forwarding. I have found that with different versions of LimeWire this sometimes has to be set up.

I was under the impression that Limewire won't run on Windows Vista. Thats the reason why i'm holding back from getting it. Although I can get a free vista upgrade.

LimeWire runs fine on Vista the only problem's I have had so far have been configuration problems. IE router and firewall although it does require installing Java 6 JRE before installing LimeWire.

Limewire and Vista

Well I'm about to give up on this. I've done everything that grandpa has said to do. I even had my IT guy from work at my house to make sure I did it right. LoL. Limewire still will not work for me. It worked once for about 2 hours then uninstalled itself after hijacking my internet connection and no matter what I've done since, it will not work. Does anyone have any idea when there will a version of limewire specifically for Vista? Or any program I can use until that time comes?

proudmotherof_2 February 6th, 2007 06:40 AM

I'm having the exact same problem I had a windows xp and it worked perfectly and I recently bought a new computer and it has windows vista and I've been trying to download Limewire but I'm having the same problem as all of you. I've tried some of the things that some of you have recommended but nothing. PLEASE HELP!!!

unemplizoid February 6th, 2007 08:13 PM

just be patient, from what ive been reading theres an update coming from MS to resollve some issues.

HeatherDianeR February 7th, 2007 12:03 AM

Yay!!

Just as I was about to give up on Limewire I decided to call Gateway. The nice lady a Gateway instructed me to uninstall McAfee because she said that she was seeing a pattern with McAfee creating problems with Vista. So as instructed I uninstalled and lord and behold Limewire works I have a turbo connection. I can search for songs and download them without a problem, and the best part is....it doesn't hijack my internet connection. I can do both at the same time. Imagine that. At any rate, I don't know if this will help anyone else but I just figured I'd share the information that helped me. Good Luck!!!! :xeri_ok1ani:

Grandpa February 7th, 2007 04:31 AM

This sounds interseting. I would like to try it. McAfee came pre-installed on my PC, so I am not sure I want to uninstall it because I don't know how I can get it back.

Anyone have any ideas?

HeatherDianeR February 7th, 2007 10:10 PM

Vista

Sorry I don't know of any other fixes but if it makes you feel better, Gateway told me just running the windows firewall would be plenty and that I didn't really need McAfee. I think it just comes with a free trial that you eventually have to pay for anyway. At any rate, 3 people have replied saying that it works and its hard to tell how many have actually done it and just haven't replied. I tried everything and this is the only way I can get it to work. Its been running perfectly for about 2 days now. It may be worth a shot....

HeatherDianeR February 7th, 2007 10:11 PM

Oh yeah, and worse case scenario if you uninstall and limewire still won't work for you, you could always do a system restore and get it back....

proudmotherof_2 February 9th, 2007 06:26 PM

Thank U very much

Thanks heather what u recommended worked perfectly. I uninstalled Mcafee and I installed Limewire and it's been working fine since then. I was so happy. Thanks for your help. I hope it has worked for all of you. Limewire is a very good program.

aeava February 10th, 2007 05:58 AM

Windos Vista and Limewire (and Mcafee)

Scenario:

I bought a new machine that came with Windows Vista Premium and Mcaffee preinstalled.

Installed Limewire and it wouldn't connect. Meanwhile, my internet connection was blocked while Limewire was running and even after I closed it, for about 5 more minutes. I tried all kinds of things: checked the router, used Windows Firewally, used Mcafee firewall, used none, etc. No solution!

So I uninstalled Mcaffee as suggested above and voilá: Limewire was download great!

But I wasn't satisfied with that answer, so I reinstalled Limewire, thinking that the order of installation made a difference: not so.

So then I started unistalling each part of the the Mcafee suite. First the Mcafee Firewall: uninstalled, restarted, tested; same thing.

Then the Mcafee Privacy Policy: uninstalled, restarted, tested; Limewire worked great (and bittorrent too!).

I haven't re-installed Mcafee Firewall yet. The bottom line is that I didn't want to uninstall Mcafee Anti-virus (for obvious reasons). As far as the firewall, I can use Vista's, I guess (but I'll try to reinstall Mcafee's). As far as Mcafee Privacy Policy is concerned, I don't care much for it, so there it goes.

I'm hoping that people that are going through don't have to uninstall the entire Mcafee suite, just the cause of the problem. Heck, I may even reinstall it and start working with the settings to see what happens --probably something with "buffer overflow" or the like...

my 2 cents.

HeatherDianeR February 10th, 2007 11:50 PM

Thanks

Thanks for the information, I'm sure a lot of people will find that very helpful. One question thought, McAfee can free with my computer.....no that I've uninstalled it how would I go about getting it back and jsut uninstalling the privacy policy?

aeava February 11th, 2007 08:38 AM

Re-installing Mcafee

I guess it might be different for different people, but here's what I did:

I went to http://us.mcafee.com/root/login.asp; after entering my username/password, I had the downloads that I was entitled to available for download. Whenever you bought Mcafee, you probably created an online account (for updates, etc.); you would use that account.

In my case, I have three items listed. I chose the anti-virus option. Actually, it doesn't matter which one you choose to download; when you run the downloaded program, you have a chance to pick any of the items you have paid for; you can check or not. I have left the Privacy Policy OUT.

I hope this helps.

note: I have an account with Comcast, as my ISP, and so I get Mcafee free of charge. All I had to do was create an account with my comcast.net account and voilá. Anyhow, I mention this because it may be different from "paying users", etc.

i hav vista and i downloaded limewire but it cant connect to download any songs. i have java 6 but it still doesnt work. any ideas?

aeava February 12th, 2007 05:30 PM

Well...

Well.. there are several ideas listed on this thread. Have you read them or tried to apply those techniques to your system?

I guess the most important things are:

- make sure there's a hole in your network firewall
- make sure there's a hole in your personal firewall

and for me, it was uninstalling Mcafee Privacy Policy.

A.-
