The problem most likely is with your router. There are apparently allot of people having the same disconnect problem as you using the WRT54G ver.6.

The link below may be of some help

Default Help

ok guys here's what happened to me. I downloaded offline version of java 6 then downloaded and installed limewire it worked perfect...I had a turbo connection for about 2 hours. I was just downloading songs and all of a sudden my internet went down, so I restarted. When i restarted limewire had somehow uninstalled itself so i reinstalled it and it hasn't worked since. I have a cable modem...help please.....

Alright so i have Windows Vista and i just recently installed limewire on my new computer. Limewire beta 4.13.0 is what i installed so when trying to connect to download music and things
message pops up saying - your computer does not appear to have an active internet connection or a firewall(s) are blocking so and so fourth...LimeWire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking LimeWire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow LimeWire access to the internet and restart LimeWire.

so i did just that, i have McAfee Security Center
and i have Windows Firewall on my computer which has its on firewall and Windows Defender i tryed disabling all these firewalls and i still have problems and it makes my internet stop working period and then i have to close limewire to get my internet to work again so how can i get limewire to work without making my internet mess up and allow them both to work at the same time?

I got LW installed. Only problem is, it connects for maybe a minute with only 3 bars then drops to 1. Afterwards, my internet connection is shot. I have to do the same disabling of my connection just to get it back. What is so different about Vista. My LW always ran perfectly smooth on XP.

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98,XP.SP2. )? Windows Vista
2. What firewalls you have? McAfee & Windows Firewall
3. How much ram? 9.99 GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 138 GB Memory 960 MB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Cable- Charter Communications
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
Conexant D850 PCI V.92 Modem
Cable Modem
Cable RF MAC Adress=000028ad37dda

7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
LW4.12.11 Java1.6.0
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?Charter Communications
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Your test worked!
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.new problem since this is a new computer
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?yes

Processor -AMD Athlon(tm)64x2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
Memory-960 MB

By the way, it also hijacks my internet connection.

MHatten42,
AFAIK that Conexant D850 is an internal modem...do you have an external modem/router? As you can see here...
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=66796
...port forwarding might be necessary if there is an external device.

Try the tips below & see if they're any help with your problem of losing connection
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showpo...10&postcount=2

Because Vista is so new & not many of us are using it (I'm not), you might have to be patient & wait until a Vista user sees your post. Posting the same question 6 times is not going to get you an answer any faster.

Most likely LimeWire is overloading your modem/Router some how. I am using a linksys wired router which had the same problem when I was running XP Pro until I changed my firmware it took 2 different versions of firmware before I found one that would not drop the connection when running LimeWire. Whenever it drooped the connection I would have to reboot the router in order to make it connect again.

Since I changed the firmware it very rarely happens any more and it has not happened once yet with Vista ultimate. I would suggest looking around for different firmware for your modem/router.

The link below is a good place to start looking for firmware and solutions.

Default McAfee!

I read this thread where someone contacted a Gateway rep who told them that McAfee was interfering with Vista alot! Uninstall it. I tried it, (even though I don't own a Gateway), and IT WORKED!!! LW is running flawlessly and my internet isn't hijacked anymore! Give it a try and post what you think.
