A Little More Help

I did this and it allowed me to set my prefs. When I go to Tools>Options the options box flashes on the screen and then goes away. I am running 4.16.3 Any thoughts??

dish wizard February 3rd, 2008 10:06 PM

will using this Pref folder trick help with my problem? I'll get downloading a song, and around 80% complete i get a Blue Screen, saying "windows has encountered a problem and is shutting down" and my computer restarts. after it restarts a window comes up saying "Windows restarted successfully after being shutdown improperly." it also has a "Show details" button, and when I click it shows that the files causing the error are in my "...\AppData\Local\Temp\" folder. Will using this "delete LimeWire in Pref folder" trick help in my problem?

wondering why February 4th, 2008 02:39 AM

Something sounds like it's corrupted in the AppData\Local\Temp...

Definately give the preference folder a try...

dish wizard February 4th, 2008 08:08 PM

I tried the Pref folder trick, and this problem still happened again. But i think i got it now. When it told me the errors were in the "...\AppData\Local\Temp\" folder it also told me of a error in the "..Windows\Minidump" file. thinking back this hadn't happened to me at all UNTIL i tried downloading a certain song, and midway thru, the blue error screen came up and all this started. after restarting and getting back on LimeWire, the song finished, but LimeWire popped up a box telling me this song might be a corrupted file. I deleted the song instantly, but it had already corrupted my files, i guess. So when i started checking over these error files that windows was telling me was causing the crashes, the"...Windows\Minidump" file showed that it had been created at 11:25 am the previous day....... the same time i got my first crash from the corrupted song i downloaded. I deleted the entire Minidump file, and everythings been smooth since.:xeri_ok1ani::xirokrotima:

Yup, sounds like you got hit with some malware. Try finding a program that will help you find malicious software types (like Spybot: S&D) and also run a full scan with your virus software.

Good luck!

Mezzi February 10th, 2008 08:58 PM

What is going on with Limewire right now is TOTALLY unacceptable.
I followed Grandpa and for the first time Limewire loaded with the message of "loading internationalization support"

HOWEVER, it would not connect to the network.

So I closed it and restarted and now its back with the internationalization loading screen and stuck there.

This is ridiculous, I hate this bloody fire and as soon as Ares starts working with Vista im going back to Ares.

How can people pay for something that doesnt work?!?!?

Why should I have to go through hell to try and make something work.

This is crazy.

Can someone also better explain how to find the .limewire file because I just cannot find it. Ive searched for it followed the instructions here with no luck. What could I be doing wrong?

Mezzi February 10th, 2008 09:17 PM

Well im having this EXACT same problem now.
I have tried what the member Grandpa suggested and I deleted the appropriate limewire folder and for the first time Limewire opened with saying " Loading Internalization Support"

However, Limewire refused to connect. So I closed it and upon opening it again the bloody thing is now back to sticking at "Loading Internationalization Support"

Can anyone offer any help?

I did not try installing the Java updates as im royally confused as to which one to install.

Also I could not find the .limewire file so therefore I couldnt delete it.

Why must users go through hell to have this thing work??

This is a disgrace frankly.

Ares for Vista where are you?!?1

Thanks in advance for any help you guys are able to provide.

I actually had it working great on Vista for about 9 months (with version .12 or whatever) then today it wouldn't connect at all. So, i went to LW site to upgrade version. Now I can't seem to keep a connection in the "connection" tab for more then 16 secs. Very frustrating. Wish i could go back to old version. I've tried every posted solution in these posts and support lists and no change in connection status. I have a few more hunches on where to go next. if anything comes up i'll post. Please do the same.

Install the latest Java from the link below. Use the JRE offline installer. Remove any older Java versions installed via control panel > add/remove programs (or the Vista equivalent) before installing the latest update.
Java SE Downloads

The older Java version mentioned in other threads is one to install if you still have problems after installing the latest update. Even though it's an old version, it seems to have done the trick for people who have had trouble with the latest Java update. It's posted as an alternative to the latest update.

You won't have a folder named .limewire unless you've used much older versions of LW in the past. The preferences folder used to be named .limewire in versions older than 4.9.34. Now the preferences folder is named LimeWire.

If you don't want to use LW & would rather use Ares then that's up to you.
You don't have to "go through hell to have this thing work":)
We aren't developers here. Just volunteers who use LW.
If you want to vent about LW I suggest you go to this other forum...some developers might read your post there.

Hi all. I'm having the issue with Limewire Basic on Vista where it can't create a settings directory. I've followed the guide to the Roaming folder, but there is nothing called Limewire in this folder. I noticed several people have had this problem as well, and couldn't find an answer to help. Has anyone found a reason for the limewire not showing in the roaming folder?

Preference folder in vista is found here

C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire ß(Preference Folder)
See the limewire link below for (how to show hidden files in vista) now you should see the LimeWire Folder

DangerM0use March 7th, 2008 01:24 AM

I have the hidden folders unhidden, but for some reason when I get to the Roamer folder, there is no Limewire folder. I'm at work right now so I'll check when I get home, maybe shutting down the computer helped and for some magical reason it suddenly shows. Will let you know but I'm not expecting anything different!

DangerM0use March 7th, 2008 10:36 AM

I've just got in and had a look. There is definatly no Limewire folder. There are other hidden folders showing, but no Limewire folder

limewire needs to be closed - close lw and do it again pse -- if the problem remains the same find out what version of java you are using -- try the latest. Download using the "OFFLINE" installer -- remove your current java version (start > control panel > add or remove program)-- if you are still having problems try an older version from here (Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11)
Remove all versions of java before you install

if you havent already done it in Limewire Links (below) click on (If LW will not connect) and go through these fixes -- also check out my other links (connection problems) (fixes for limewire) Finally if still no good pse click on (system details) fill in as much as you can and post back here -- also pse tell me what you have done to try and fix yr problem -- "checked this/removed that" isnt very helpful at all.

So no other LW versions running on other computers?
Go to LW's menu bar, Tools > Options > Advanced > Performance, and disable Ultrapeer and DHT and TLS. Then press apply. Then connect manually. If it connects, then can re-enable those performance options.
To connect manually, click on File > disconnect. Wait 5 minutes, then File > connect. Else, first go to Tools > Options > Connections and disable connect on start up. Then try the File > Connect option.

Besides .. what does your problem have to do with this thread topic? Nothing right !! Just a lazy place to stick your little problem.

What is it with forum rules that nobody wants to read them, yet want help. New users are shown links to the forum rules 'at least 3' times before their first post. *sighs*

Thank you! It worked!
For those who dont know or couldnt find the "preference folder", the folder "Limewire" IS the preference folder. After you clicked Roaming, you see a bunch of program files, look for "Limewire", be brave and delete it (yes within the Limewire folder there are other crap in it, dont worry, just DELETE it).

Hey there. New here to the LW help hotline and wanted to say theres alot of great information in here from people who have obviously had alot of problem solving experience to be able to naviagate through all these tough problems. I myself just got my Hp laptop, dv6000 with vista OS, and am running into a small problem I was wondering if anyone knew a quick solution to. I have LW pro, which i paid for, and iTunes. I have been able to sucessfully download music but when i go to iTunes under the shared option on the left hand side of the window where it shows "johnsons Limewwire Tunes", when i click on it a window pops up saying that that shared library is not compatable with the latest version of iTunes that is out right now< which is the one I am operating with. Does anyone know how i can get my LW and itunes to work together happily and to be compatable again like I use to always have with my last computer before I had vista. Would greatly appretate any help for this 1st time poster.

Wrong topic thread. This thread is about Vista preferences and where to find them & delete them if necessary. :)

Thank you much for the tip. I got rid of iTunes 7.7.1 and downloaded 6.0 off freehippo.com. Unfortunetly the software was bogus and it wiped my iPod clean of all its music. Luckly i used my back up ipod first to make sure nothing bad happened to my 160GB. Only question now is where can i find a ligitamite place to download an older version of itunes so LW will be compatable and I can move on to bigger and better LW questions, solutions and experiences. Thanx again:Smilywais:

then please post back with your system details. That help thread has info about which details we need.

Im officially about 5 minutes away from throwing my laptop across the room at an innocent unsuspecting wall. i have vista. it worked. it worked well. then the connection went from 5 bars to 4, and down from there over a period of weeks. i would buy limewire pro in the hope that theyll fix the problem for me, but i dont see the point if the connection problem cant be fixed.

Lord of the Rings October 24th, 2008 11:44 PM

Pro will NOT fix connection problems. If it will not connect properly with LW Basic, Pro will not help. I see this is your first post chloriform07. :) Perhaps you can go to the Connection Problems - Gnutella Forums section of forums & create a new thread & give these details: System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) & explain your problem. :)

Remember to try these options: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html as sometimes one or a combination of these suggestions works. ;)
