OKAY..for stupid people like ME!!! I have done EVERYTHING and nothing has worked until I did sort of what that expert suggested. On VISTA START.. I clicked on my name that is on top of right side..APP DATA appeared in a list..CLICK and you'll either see yellow folders or a list of folders..look for the limewire one and delete it...restart and be in shock because it's the only thing that allowed me to see the 4 green bars..THANK YOU GRANDPA!!!!

What color do you think they should be? Return searches (search results) are always black for me. :)

Thank you sooooo much Bichons9! I have tired everything and understood nothing, until I saw your post. Thank you Thank you it worked!!!!! Two months with no LW..it's been very frustrating. I hope it doesn't happen again.

PrinceofDeath86 January 23rd, 2009 10:39 AM

This folder does not exist, i've already done the hidden files and all of that and still nothing,. Thanks in advance for the help.

Lord of the Rings January 23rd, 2009 10:51 AM

If you have created settings (eg: save to folder, speed, etc.) within LW you will have a preferences folder called Limewire.

You did a computer search for LimeWire? Selected each one from the search results to see the location shown?

Are you sure you are running Vista? Are you sure it was the correct account folders you were accessing?

Lenny DeBrita January 28th, 2009 09:06 AM

I tried this and it worked along with some other stuff I did regarding connection. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. I deleated the Lime Wire Folder and that seemed to do the trick after I restarted my computer.

I have a big problem here. Everytime I run limewire, my computer winds up freezing up. I have run all my anti-virus/spyware/malware software, but nothing seems to help it. I have tried completely reinstalling everything, but it still does it. What do I do??

Create a new thread about your problem explaining the issue & supplying your system details. :)

foxxytam February 18th, 2009 05:53 PM

alright... ive officially tried to do the stuff thats posted on here, I had limewire 5 but it didnt connect even after i had deleted all the fire walls, etc. Now ive deleted 5 and have 4, and even though ive changed the settings to supposedly let down the firewalls, it still has the globe at the bottom with the brick wall in front of it. Pls help!

foxxytam February 18th, 2009 05:54 PM

Joe-001 February 23rd, 2009 10:54 AM

Thank you!

You can do this by clicking on Start/User Name (Attachment #1)/Organize/ in the drop down window choose Folder and search Options in the next drop down window choose View and put a tick mark in in the Show hidden files and folders. Then click apply to folders. (Attachment #2)

Once that is done the AppData file will show up click on it then choose Roaming. In the window that shows up right click on the LimeWire file and delete it. ( Attachment #3)

Finally a cure, it fixed it right up. Thx!

I follow you up until where the AppData file is supposed to appear. All mine shows is the Saved, Shared and Incomplete. :(

are you looking for the Preference folder if so:-

PREFERENCE FOLDER FOR XP @ VISTA

Which OS are you using? For XP the prefs folder is in
C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\LimeWire

(or)
c:\documents and settings\username\limewire
Application Data's hidden by default, so you'll need to enable viewing of hidden files & folders to be able to see it
(control panel > folder options > view > check the radio button to show hidden files & folders > apply > ok).

Vista users look here
C:\Users\your \\username\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire
See the link below for how to show hidden files & folders & find the prefs folder in

LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

Lenny DeBrita March 15th, 2009 02:34 PM

Hello,

What I did was what grandpa said in his posts and it finally worked. I worked on it off and on for two months before I got lime wire to work. But it has been well worth it. In the help section of windows look up hidden folder and it will talk you through how to find them. I had to deleate any folder that said limewire on it. There was only one in my case. Good luck.

DevilShroom May 3rd, 2009 12:13 PM

Know this thread is a bit old now but this isn't working for me and it's good to know how to delete preferences.

Just FYI
OS: Vista
LIMEWIRE VERSION: 5

My current problem is with it freezing and obviously this is one of the first suggested solutions.

I've followed all instructions, made hidden files viewable (and I know it's worked cos I can view other hidden files), gone to appdata/roaming/limewire.
When I get there though there is no preference folder.
I have these folders:
.AppSpecialShare
browser
certificate
mozilla-profile
promotion
themes
xml

I then have just a bunch of other files. Are these the ones I delete perhaps? A few of them are Cache files I've seen. If you need info of what files are there let me know but I'm not gonna type it up unless you need it cos it's quite long ;).

Thanks very much, hopefully I can get some help on this.

about LW connection problems

:idea:hi, jt1002, i just review Grandpa's advice about LW connection problems. It still works. I just follow Grandpa's great directions to delete the LW preference folder, then LW connects ok.

Do you mean me? DevilShroom.

This is really weird I posted about an hour ago, got an email and it said I had a reply, from your username, came here and my post has vanished and you've replied refering to someone called jt1002.

So odd lol.

If you were refering to me I've followed ALL the directions in this thread, still I can't see a preferences folder. So there is clearly a different problem here. If you're not refering to me then never mind lol.

Just to re-alliterate my problem since my post is now missing.

OS: Vista
LIMEWIRE: Verion 5

I follow all directions, able to view hidden folders. Go to appdata/roaming/limewire. There is no preferences folder here though.

These are the folders I have:
.AppSpecialShare
browser
certificate
mozilla-profile
promotion
themes
xml

Files I have are:
createtimes.cache
downloads.dat
fileurns.bak
fileurns.cache
filters.props
installation.props
library.dat
library5.dat
limewire.props
mojito.props
questions.props
responses.cache
simpp.xml document
spam.dat
tables.props
ttdata.cache
ttrees.cache
ttroot.cache
version.xml document
versions.props

So yes that's all there is under *Username*/Appdata/roaming/limewire

This worked like a charm

p.s. If you want to keep your skins then back those up first and move them back to the new folder LW creates

Nuskyndrummer April 14th, 2011 04:36 PM

Hi everyone. I have Windows Vista, Limewire 5.4.6, and broadband cable. I can't get Limewire to connect to the internet.

Anarchistnation April 14th, 2011 06:22 PM

Nuskyndrummer, I'm not sure if you're aware that limewire (the newer versions anyway) was shutdown in October 2010 roughly. That's probably the reason it can't connect to the internet. However, you can find an older version which should still work. Last time I checked my old version still worked. Hope you find this helpful

Nuskyndrummer, I have the LW Pirate edition. It works great for me with the Windows XP. Check that file out and see how it works. Rich
