Keep us posted

Thanks to all who have taken part in this thread; please keep us posted if any changes produce improvements. Meantime, where does one get other versions of Java?

Somebody else posted the same error with the full error report (always post the complete error message, there is useful information in it) and his problem seemed to be, that a file called "collections.jar" was missing in his LimeWire folder. - This might be a problem with the installer. Anyway, the file didn't change since at least LimeWire 1.6 and you could always copy the collections.jar of a different version into your LimeWire folder.

Another possibility is, that the classpath in your start script is not complete (only on Linux and MacOSX). In that case it would be helpful if you could post the contents of your RunLime.sh file (or whatever the file you execute to start LimeWire is called) here.

The JRE can be downloaded from Sun's website here.

Link doesn't work

Rutro, I clicked on your "here" for http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html
but my browser says it can't locate the remote server.

Hmmm....

Not sure why the prob Alex71.... Link is fine for me.

Try going to Sun's homepage: http://java.sun.com/ and drill down to the JRE download page from there.

Good luck. :)

Still can't reach it

Rutro: Thought it might be my browser (Opera) but I can't reach the site in IE either. Opera can't find it, and IE says page can't be displayed.

You should download the latest JRE from Sun's website here.

But you said in the past you've had a problem with the link?

Hi, Rutro: I did report such a problem in the past, but tried it just now and was able to download j2re... Installed it (and reinstalled Limewire) and it seems to work fine now. Thanks much.
