![]() I recently downloaded LimeWire as well as the Java 2 program, several times in fact. I am using Windows 98 and have about 450 MB available. I have had to download, install, and uninstall both programs several times as I have never been able to get LImeWire to work. I finally was able to download and install both programs and get a LimeWire icon on my desktop (which I did not have the first 3 times I downloaded it). So I assumed that everything had worked this time. However, when I double click the LimeWire icon, about 2-3 min later (which seems like forever) I get a box in the middle of the desk top that has limes in it and says "LimeWire." Sometimes my computer freezes at this point. Sometimes I am able to get into the program (taking about 5-7 min) at which point the computer freezes. I have only heard great things about LimeWire and would love to be able to use it but, short of uninstalling and reinstalling both programs again (which I don't think would be effective anyway), I don't know what to do to get it to work. I would greatly ppreciate any help that could be offerred! Thanks. |

![]() thanks for your reply. i do have an older computer with 450 MB hard drive space, a pentium processor, but only 16 MB RAM, which, i understand, may be the problem. do you know of another program i can download that is similar to limewire but will work with what i have? thanks again. |

![]() There are several other clients that will be less taxing on your computer system. http://www.gnutelliums.com/windows/ In my opinion, BearShare (which is on the page I have given the link to) is a great Gnutella Client for the windows platform. It uses fewer system resources and should prove to be relatively fast. During the install, however, make sure you choose NOT to install Newdotnet advertising. It may cause conflicts with other programs on your machine (most notably LimeWire). TO MODERATORS: I realize that this is the LimeWire section, but this may help others who cannot run LimeWire with an older computer. Please don't relocate this thread. Thanks! :-) |

![]() I'm running Limewire 1.6d on MacOS 9.1. Limewire routinely freezes for seconds, perhaps even minutes, at a time. It then unfreezes. It freezes my entire computer, all applications. What gives? Last edited by starren; August 16th, 2001 at 08:27 AM. |

![]() I have heard of this problem several times, but I am not sure of a solution. Some others have had success doing one or more of the following things: - Allocating about 40 MBs of RAM to LimeWire. On a mac, I am not sure how to do this. -Not performing broad searches. i.e. searching for "an mp3" in the search field will grab too many results and will clog the network quickly if several users do this. Too many results pouring in seems to upset the Mac. -Not performing simultaneous searches. Anyone out there running Mac OS 9 that can help Starren out? |

![]() Certainly providing 40Mb of RAm to the application improves the freezing...If you have them available ! Quit the application, click once on the application Icon, select <option><i> and select Memory to 40,000 close the window and run the application again... If you do not have more than 40MB of RAM, don't even try ! Mac OS 9.1 recommended RG |
