Try updating your Java: Java 1.4.2 (click on link)
Which version of LW did you install. Did you use the english installer or the international installer. Better to use the english one.

Then try to Install LW 4.2.4 (english installer only!) BUT update your Java 1st! Very important!

Make a note of your LW settings. Then delete LW's settings by deleting the folder called .limewire. Found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire There might be some corruption there.

Uh-Oh! Search the word BLUE on the forum. Use the search button above right. Blue screens are usually caused by hardware issues.

Try these things:

1. Repair LimeWire using the Add/Remove Programs utility. Go to Control Panel then Add/Remove Programs & click on Limewire on the Change/Remove button & it comes up with options and one of them is Repair. Try this.

2. Right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and changed compatability setting to Windows 2000.

3. Update your Java version 1.5 (take the JRE) (This is a later version Java than I originally suggested.)

4. Right-click on the Limewire icon on the desktop and click on Run as. Then it should come up showing the current user and then switch it over to Administrator.

5. Delete the LW Preferences folder called .limewire (whilst LW is closed!) Found here: Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire OR Windows 98 / ME: Your .limewire folder is in "C:\Documents and Settings\Username"

6. Force IP within LW: Force IP instructions & sample image

After that, here's some hints: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.

Default Crash n Burn

I had this problem when I had Zone Alarm pro, had to uninstall it because it was just too unstable. Now I have Mc afee, I can disable it during Lime Wire to get better results and d/l. But no crashing so far, Zone Alarm can't be totally disabled, even hard to get rid of once removed.

As I suggested earlier, search the word BLUE on the forum. Press the Search button & type that word in. Blue Screen problems are generally hardware issues. Sure a particular softw may set it off, but the underlying issue is with hardw... I left a link in a post about blue screens which explains the problem quite well. You'll find it if you want to.
