Default Limewire opens itself, won't let me use options...

Up until now I've had no problems with limewire, but today I came across some weird stuff.

I have windows xp, In case anyone needs to know.
Anyway, everything was working normally until I closed Limewire, and exited from the little icon on the start menu tray, and moments later, it restarted itself. I have no idea what prompted it to do this. It continued to do so every time I closed it. I also couldn't open the options menu. I tried to, but the window would remain for less than a second and then close.

Eventually I uninstalled, and then reinstalled limewire, and restarted my computer just to see if it would do anything.

The spontaneous openings have stopped, but I still can't open the options menu.

Does anyone have any idea what exactly happened here, or what I might have done to make it this way?

I'd appreciate any support.

Edit: The popping up came back, so now it's that and no options menu.
I have to admit, I did post before read all the other topics. To clarify, however, I can use task manager just fine.
I haven't noticed any strange files, and haven't detected any viruses, so none of the suggestions in the other thread
are helping. Limewire continues to open (it asks about pro, as it does when you first install it) and only shows the
options menu for less than a second.

Hi. My problem started yesterday. Identical to yours. Have you heard back from anyone? I'm not going to lie.....I don't really understand how to read the responses to my questions on the thread. I hope we find a solution. My son is bummed out.

Download AVG Free AV. Update AVG & then scan your computer. There's a link for download in the thread below. See whether AVG fixes the problem for you.

If that doesn't help, there are various other fixes (BFU, vundofix, system restore) in the threads below...there are different fixes to try as there seem to have been a few variations of this thing over time

2 probs (LW keeps restarting & can't access options)
Starts on its own/ options folder won't open (possible fix)
installation aborts

Always make sure that you're using a good AV program. Keep it updated & use it to scan all files that you download, before you open them...hopefully you won't download infected files again
