How did you try to uninstall it? If you used the control panel -> install/uninstall programs that is the incorrect way.

Normal way is Start menu -> All Programs -> LW -> Uninstall.

The error message shows a startup error but you say you were trying to uninstall it?

Try this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html

Also, delete your previous LW preferences folder before you reinstall: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) or for vista see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html

Hi, sounds like what I have been getting. Only my problem is this: Limewire kept opening on it's own after I closed it. So I uninstalled, now it still keeps trying to open then I get this message, obviously because the program is no longer there.

LimeWire version 4.18.8
Java version 1.6.0_05 from Sun Microsystems Inc.
Windows XP v. 5.1 on x86

Hi Weez and Welcome.

If your LW's opening up all the time & won't stay closed, you're probably infected. Have a look at these threads:
2 probs (LW keeps restarting & can't access options)
installation aborts

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. Probably the same virus causing other issues on my computer.

Thanks for your help.

Just to let you know, I fixed the issue. I originally had McAfee installed but not had it updated so it wasn't doing any good anyway. I uninstalled it and downloaded AVG free as suggested in a previous thread regarding this issue. Updated it and scanned my computer....no more virus. Everything seems to be running great now and I learned my lesson. Thanks for everyone's help.

Lisa
