Just an update - got in contact with my daughter and asked her to download limewire and see if she has any problems opening/starting it -- she did and had no problems what so ever -- she had java Jre version 5 -- so I'm in the process of downloading version 5 then will uninstall version 6 and try again -- will keep you informed

i have a different type of problem. limewire used to work and now doesn't. however it is only when logged onto my user that it doesn't work. if i log off and change user it works, but not in my own user.
what happens: i click to start running limewire, the box appears and the loading bar always stops at 12%. this is as far as i get. yet if i change user, it works fine!
i have tried uninstalling and re-installing, it still stops at 12% when i try to run limewire.
any thoughts?

Skyliner: I had the same problem and found that it was because Java was blasted off my computer for some reason. There is a section of the LimeWire site that tells you what to try to fix connection problems. Follow that lead until it gets to the "download Java" and try it. It worked for me.
