installation problems

I previously had limewire 4.18, and i uninstalled it. Then I downloaded limewire 5. I'm trying to install it, but it keeps telling me that it can't continue because an older version of limewire is open, but there is no sign of the old limewire on my computer. HELP.

Lord of the Rings March 11th, 2009 03:57 PM

1. Reboot computer.
2. Delete your LW preferences folder found here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...tml#post183932 (see link for Vista if using Vista.)
3. Download & install this version: http://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireWin-full.exe :)

Installation problem (too)

My Limewire version 4.12 was installed on a auxilary drive, XP Medica center OS. I thought I put all the files on that drive. The main harddrive of my p.c. crashed, was replaced, and my OS reloaded. I see my Limewire files on my aux. drive which was unaffected. My library is there but I can't access it. Do I need to reload a Limewire installation? If so, which version? I've been looking through these forums but haven't found a similar problem/solution. It seems that if I just reload the Limewire software, something might become corrupted.
Any tips? Thanx for your consideration.

Yeah for windows it's a little more complex. I suspect you'd need to reinstall it to that drive again. I'd recommend LW 4.12 or 4.18 at this point. Lime Wire » Download Out-Of-Date Installers for LW 4.18
Once installed, you will need to direct the shared folder to that drive as it was before. ;)

For 4.12 check either http://www.gnutellaforums.com/340213-post427.html .. see if it works. If not, try LimeWire - DOWNLOAD at OLD VERSION.COM Please let me know if the first link 4.12 installs ok. :)

limewire could not start :-(

i just bought limewire pro 5.1.2 and for some reason it will not work at all. every time i try to start limewire i get an error message that reads "Sorry, LimeWire ran into a problem while it was starting up. This is usually caused by a problem during installation, Try downloading and installing LimeWire again. If that doesn't fix it, visit Lime Wire » Official Website & Free Download, BitTorrent « and click on 'Support'. You can also send the bug to us so we can try and fix it."
I have done all of these steps but keep getting the same error message.
thanks for your help

For reinstall options see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html .. and use whichever version of LW ... you prefer. At this stage, LW 4 is definitely better. As a pro user, you have choice of LW 5 or 4.18.8, the latter which can be obtained by clicking the Classic link on left side of your pro page. Click this link to see sample image: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...e-old-inst.gif

I reloaded 4.12.6 from the OLDVERSION.com site, redirected my files to my auxillary drive where my library is stored. I'm back in business! Thanx. My old version was 4.12.11 which I think was an older version of PRO. I didn't see that listed anywhere. Which version of PRO would be the best to upgrade to with my current 4.12.6 ? Or maybe I don't have a choice. I'm not sure. :o

Lord of the Rings March 28th, 2009 01:47 PM

Unfortunately older versions of pro are not available. ;) Otherwise everyone would be getting free pro versions. I'm not sure about the difference between 4.12.6 & 4.12.11, but you can check the changes here Changelog - LimeWire
Some versions behave better for some people's set up compared to other versions. It's not an easy answer. :)

chase March 30th, 2009 09:15 AM

Looks like the changes are minimal (for me). A couple of more days to verify stabilization and I'll upgrade to a PRO version. Thanx for your help Lord of the Rings.

Not sure what you mean. What sequence? If you mean that LW starts to load (ie muddling mint, scouring NYC for limes, squeezing limes) & then shuts down - try the advice here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/331559-post2.html

If that's not your problem, could you explain a bit more?

wharrisf April 7th, 2009 03:10 AM

Thanks, that's exactly what I mean, I'll try the link and see what happens....

Hello L.O.T.R.

I previously had 4.18. It worked fine for quite some some time. Then I started having problems when I would open the program. The windows would be see through on start up. The windows that I am referring to are the main Limewire window and the small ones asking me if I want to upgrade and such. If I click on them or drag over them they some times will appear. At the bottom of my screen on the task bar, limewire appears in a white box and says JAVA instead of limewire. Once I click on it to minimize the window and again to maximixe it, it will then go from a transparent window to a the normal Limewire screen. Even the Limewire "lime" icon in the bottom right corner of my screen is invisible. It's there, but you can not see it.

I decided to upgrade to the new 5.1.2. After I downloaded it, I ran the program. It will get all the way through the greyish black limewire setup screen which says squeezing limes and so on. Once it runs the program and show a predominately white screen with two choices to pick from, IT CLOSES! It does this every single time. The Lime icon on my taskbar is again invisible but it is there. Once the program suddenly closes, I can scroll over the invisible lime icon and it will also automatically go close. I have rebooted, re-downloaded (many times), deleted all old versions of Java and even reinstalled 4.18 for it to act the same way as before.

PLEASE HELP! I've lost a ton of time and miss my Limewire!

jj_1489 May 5th, 2009 10:49 PM

Sorry guys! I didn't see one of the post above that had the same problem with it closing right away. I'm checking all of the recommended threads now. Thanks!

jj_1489 May 5th, 2009 11:31 PM

ok, tried and tried and still the same thing. As soon as Limewire opens and ask me to automatically add files to library or whatever the other choice is, it shuts down! I don't even have enough time to read what the second thing says. Any suggestions???

Lord of the Rings May 6th, 2009 12:00 AM

If you removed all versions of Java, did a registry clean, then installed the offline Java & still problems, then either a different version of Java or a setting on LW.

Have you tried (a) setting LW to run as Admin. by right-clicking the program file. (b) tried different compatibility settings depending on which windows you are using. You didn't specify. eg: right-click LW change compatibility to NT or win 2000 or XP, etc. :)

The problem 'might' also be your video card settings.

Peerless May 24th, 2009 10:49 AM

my guess is that you are not actually downloading the installer, rather opening it up and trying to install directly...

DOWNLOAD the installer then use it..

crabbyragoongyrl May 24th, 2009 10:53 AM

confused

How do I download the installer and where do I find it at?

Lord of the Rings May 24th, 2009 12:47 PM

LW 4 here Get LimeWire for Your Platform - Lime Wire (under heading Past Releases)

Else offline LW 5 version here: http://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireWin-full.exe

crabbyragoongyrl May 24th, 2009 01:27 PM

birdy June 1st, 2009 07:45 PM

Do you mean that you see a bug report?

Try steps 1 - 8 here (click on link): http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html

If that doesn't help, can you copy the info from the bug report & then post it in this thread?
:)

Did you get this situation sorted? If not let us know what the scenario is now. :)
Sorry looks like I missed your last post. :o

If desiring to downgrade from LW 5 to LW 4, please let us know. We recommend downgrading to LW 4.16 instead of LW 4.18 because of problems with LW 4.18. However there are a few tricks you need to know about first, so let us know if you wish to downgrade. ;) Our tests showed that it is far more effective to downgrade to LW 4.16 rather than 4.18 which appears to have some bugs with recognising LW 5 incomplete files in any form.
