Most deffinately (spell check) It has always been quite a debate on what to do with an old HDD. The link I gave you in post #2 seems to get the job done as it overwrites the disc many times.
Me personally would never let anyone get there hands on any HDD that I have used.
HDD are very inexpensive now days, so I would take the old one out and replace it. That might also be an oppertunity to get more money out of the computer when selling. You can get a 40gig HDD for about $45.00
