Hmm--Sounds like a very early (beta?) version of OSX--you should update your system to take advantage of all Apple's fixes first. Does 10.0.4 have the System Preferences->Software Update?

If the checksum failed, then the .dmg didn't download properly. Trash the file and redownload another.
