Default LW-install says MRJ not installed, but it is.

*I have read the FAQ and relevant threads*

I'm running OS 8.6 / G3 desktop / 192MB RAM.
MRJ 2.2.5 installed and running for months.

LW 2.5 installer fails right after extracting components, with this message:

! Unable to launch java application
MRJ may not be installed correctly

I reinstalled MRJ (again) and checked the FAQ, which mentions disabling FaxSTF extensions. They are all disabled on my machine.

Retried with the "Mac no VM" installer. Same message.

Note: LW was once installed on my machine, and I removed it (and all components/extensions/preferences I believe).

Suggestions?
