Agentrip & Treessa

Sorry that you guys got scammed, I hope that you are taking the necessary steps to get your money back.

Agentrip, you said:

This is all on LimeWire.
How is it LW's fault that you got scammed? You're the one that went to the scam site, LW did not send you there, and you're the one that parted with your money without checking that you were dealing with a legitamate site.

If you get your money back from your credit card company then great but if you don't then put this experience down to your own carelessness, i.e. jumping without looking, and vow never to get caught like this again.

You might think I am being harsh but how can you guard yourself against scam sites, and other bushwhackers on the internet, if you do not accept that you have done something wrong, i.e. trusting without double checking.

A good reason why I don't like e-mail so much...You must explain all. I apologize for the misunderstanding. I meant no harm to limewire itself, I only meant that this is where I ran into the problem at..I am pleased with limewire and not so happy that I got scammed...So please: to all that read my post do not think I am trying to "insult" limewire...Hope this makes more sense

agentrip October 10th, 2005 05:40 AM

Ok Folks...This is what I did and it may help others. As we know, a lot of us are being scammed. Remember they now have our credit card information. So I called my credit card company, reported a lost card (told them the situation) and got a new account. The charge on my credit card is being disputed and the old account is being closed under fraud action. The company is sending me a bill in the mail so I can highlight the transactions that I believe to be invalid: once that is complete I will send it back and the charge will be void. I hope this helps..

I got hosed too!

I don't feel as bad now that I see we got hosed as a group, however,I would like to think that the programmers of limewire have some kind of patent because I would be glad to help them collect some royalties from all the shysters making money from their hard work. The crew that boned me was <support@mail.tv.org> and I still have a printout of my lifetime membership for $27. This is one thing about the internet that sucks, I can't believe that the feds haven't cracked down on thieves like these people.

Ah Baddbob, because LW has NO patent (sort of), the scammers can take advantage of them. See http://www.limewire.org/ to see what open source means

Lime Wire LLC hopes to expedite Gnutella research and development by providing the core message passing and file sharing code, so that one need not waste time re-writing it. The combined public efforts of noble individuals will keep Gnutella a virtuous, public network, for the people and by the people. The LimeWire Open Source Project hopes other developers will help to build the network that benefits all people and future generations.
Bottom feeders like scammers love to exploit idealists, sadly .

Anyway, I keep paying for the real version of LimeWire. That's my little way of flipping the bird at the scammers.

nearly got me...

when i was researching limewire (heard it was good but wasnt quite sure), i came across this site. i thought at first it was the UK site for limewire (i typed limewire.co.uk in the addy bar on internet explorer) but closer inspection proved it wasnt. i decided to stick with the site with "limewire" plastered all over it!

Only A Hobo October 12th, 2005 12:21 PM

limewire.org is the official page for the development side of Limewire. It is reached via the main page of Limewire.com through the open source button. typing in the address limewire.co.uk takes you to a search engine that seems to come up with legitimate results.... I think.

Refund from scam site

I signed up for the 2 year membership from mp3share.us which cost £15 plus £9 for some spyware software that I didn't want.
After reading the posts on this site I realised I'd been scammed, so contacted my bank, who said they wouldn't or couldn't stop the payment and that I'd need to contact the company I'd bought it from.

It was a long shot, but I called the company (long distance) and was amazed when they said they'd give me a full refund! There was an admin charge of £7, but that's way better than the £24 I'd thought I'd lost forever. They sent me a receipt too. They must know they're scamming everyone 'cos they didn't even attempt argue when I asked for my money back.

Now I've just gotta wait til the the money materialises! (And see how much they fleeced me for that phone call to customer services). Watch this space...

wearyone October 16th, 2005 12:41 AM

I too have been taken in. Don't really believe I will get a refund, especially if I have to telephone the U.S. but they may take the admin fee

I lost my money here;
http://www.moviemembersarea.com/index.asp

Have been unable to get back to the sign up page although they did advertise a full refund if not completely satisfied.
