my connection is on 1 bar n nothing works

can anyone help me?

i downloaded limewire a couple of days ago and the connection bar is ither automatically disconnecting or is on 1 green bar and not going any higher, this had made searching and downloading impossible,
an error message comes up as well saying

" your machine does not appear to have an active internet connection or a firewall is blocking limewire from accessing the internet"

even though i can use the internet at the same time and my firewalls are disabled

can anyone help answer this?
