Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default Why isnt something being done about Google supporting scammers?

Of course people are getting scammed left and right, if you type limewire into google the first two results are "Download version 5.5 FREE!!" and then next to it says "sponsored result". If you didnt know any better, what would you think? Of course you're gonna think "hey i trust google, and they wouldnt have a scam site come up first". I just dont understand why no legal action has been saught against these sites or at least the search engines advertising them.

Default US Financial Laws

Nymb09

I don't know anything about US laws but the laws that allow scammers to advertise on Google are the same ones that allow World.Com and Enron to swindle working people (both in the US, UK and probably all over the western world) out of their savings and pensions.

I know this because both friends and relatives, as well as myself, lost huge chunks of our savings, even though we did not invest in these fraudulent companies.

I say the following based on what I see rather than what I actually know and I will stand corrected of someone knowledgeable can point out that I am wrong:

It seems that lately US wide laws are based on who or what can pay the most rather than what is actually good for the people of the country. Katrina showed that the government did not really care about a certain segment of it's people because they were mainly poor and working class.

World.Com and Enron executives rubbed shoulders with the administration and, it seems, as long as these companies were contributing to the coffers of the party in power they could get away with anything, and they did.

Look at the US record industry, they are sponsoring laws to actually rob the artists of their intellectual property, i.e. the songs they create.

In other words, in the US it is all about money or, should I say, extracting money from working people and distributing it to the wealthy (and to hell with the rest).

So, when Google builds it's financial strategy based upon the takings scammers can provide all Google is really doing is following the current thinking on how things are now done in the US.

Remember, Money First and Working People nowhere.

UK Bob

PS. The US used to be the world's leader in showing the world how people should live by merit and how they should live in a democracy. Although a lot of times the US could not live up to those ideal, they did show the world how things could and should be. Now it seems that bubble-headedness is the flavour of the day and money, no matter how you get it, is life's only goal

Default This makes me wonder what google you have

When I search for Limewire on Google.

www.limewire.com which is the relevant result

PC-world (a review of Limewire + free download

www.download.com (free limewire download)

etc.

+ Not a single sponsored result

are you sure that you don't have something on your PC that redirects you to some scam google-site

I am not saying that I have never gotten bad searchresults from google, but at the same time I will state that out of all the searchengines I think that Google is the best and most helpful

You should try searching with some of the other searchengines out there and you'll see what I mean

As for sponsored results

If you had created something brilliant, wouldn't you like to get paid ? I sure would

I don't get anything above my normal searchresults

Maybe it is location- or language related then ? or maybe some advanced settings. I almost always use them. Or do you have the google toolbar in your browser, maybe that's it ??

I don't know, but I'm quite happy with it

Google has just as many or more scam sites than any other search engine.

Just curious but why is it that the US gets blamed for everything allot of the world would not be as well off right now if it wasn't for the US. The people who settled the US in the beginning were people who left their own countries like mine that came over from England to escape the oppression of their governments and to be able to make a living and have the opportunity to become prosperous.

Something that could not be achieved in their own countries. Allot of people did very well and still do to this day several million people migrate to the US every year looking for that opportunity and allot of them achieve their goals. There is no other place in the world where the opportunities can be found that are available to all people of the US.

People talk about the poor in the US and there are some that have had a hard time. But the vast majority are just plain LAZY and unwilling to work. Tell me how literally millions of people can come to this country every year and find jobs make a living and save money. But yet those that are already here can not find a job. When I was farming the unemployment agencies would send people out during harvest season I would give them a job 9 out of ten would not make it the first week. Now these people were making the same money I was yet it was not good enough for them so I have no sympathy for the LAZY poor which is what the vast majority of the pore in this country are.

And no I do not agree with the RIAA or the MPAA but I also do not hold anything against a person or a corporation that has made a fortune in this country by working for it. And you do not become rich by siting on your ***. Allot of people hate dislike Bill Gates because he monopolized the software industry. Hell I admire the man he went from basically nothing to being the richest man in the world and it really has nothing to do with whether he stoled the original or not what it does have to do with is great business strategy and marketing. He also donates more private money than any other individual or corporation in the world.

Any way enough of this rant go ahead and blame the US for the worlds problems it has become the fad of the world. But while you are doing it look around in your own back yard I am sure there are plenty of bones buried there.

My only comment is that I'm in the UK and I have done a Google search for Limewire a few times since this post appeared, using the Google window on my Opera browser (which takes me to Google .com) and also typing in Google.com .. which takes me to Google.co.uk (LOL) and I have got no sponsored spam results on either.

The political debate ...has had one too many comments from me already
