I understand the point you are trying to make and I totally agree with you, no one should be allowed to take without sharing but you have some fundamental misunderstandings in your assessment.

Now you run into the ethical problem of should you try and take control of user's PCs through planting some sort or Trojan, in LW, that forces people to share.

Well, if this is what you want I would have to vehemently disagree with you, even though I am a sharer and a Pro user if I found out that my copy of LW was sharing stuff without my permission I would stop using it. And I believe that anyone concerned about their PC security would stop using LW also.

So junior member Whackylilstar, although I initially agree with your idea in practice I would stop using LW and move onto something that would not intentionally compromise my PCs (and by default my) security.

Hi, UK Bob, I understand ur concern about security issues all net users should be. All i'm suggesting is, if Lime Wire offers the download software for free and u accept it that everyone must share the Lime Wire Folder. I'm not talking about anyone taking control of our pc's only that somehow it be written in the code of the Lime Wire software download that the Lime Wire folder be shared. And u would have to agree to sharing the folder or choose not to download the Lime Wire software, and maybe if u bought pro this could be one of the added features that u could choose not to share ur files, but it's ridiculous to choose not to share ur files and be on the site uploading from others.

It's not always a concious choice not to share files!
Some people aren't sharing because they're firewalled & this effectively stops most or all other people downloading from them. I'm sure that a lot of people aren't even aware of what the firewall icon means, let alone that others can't download from them
In some cases too, the firewall comes from a school, apartment complex etc & so the user's powerless to do anything about it...should these people not be allowed to download???

I think you have to be a bit less simplistic in your approach.
Even those people who choose not to share may be doing that because they're nervous about using p2p...how many people do you think are just plain scared of being prosecuted? Are you going to tell them that they have nothing to worry about? Out of all those people, there are those who will start to share files...once they're familiar with whatever cilent they're using & feel a bit more comfortable with the whole concept of p2p.
If they were told from day one that they have to share, or they're not allowed to use the client...they'd run a mile & I wouldn't blame them. That would be the network's loss.
There are always going to be freeloaders...fact of life. But to be so militant about forcing people to share would only harm the client & p2p in general.

as mentioned above, theres always the issue of the ones which are powerless to reconfigure firewalls etc.... but never the less... have a read and see what you think.

im sure many of you have used azerus ( spelt right? ) and demonoid.com to download torrents... well demonoid have a little system for ratio which changes on how much you download and share... the more you download without sharing, the lower your ratio depends.. surely using a script to limit their download speed according to their ratio would be doable?

I personaly share mostly movies and pictures. If I shared my music it would take all day to load
You can set limewire up to only share with people that share a certain amount of files tho, under tools > options.. and i don't remember from there, but it's there.

ok..well...i just downloaded that crap of a site "musicjustfree" and it doesnt tell how to get rid of your account with them..can someone please just tell me how to cancel my membership or contact these people!?!? I would REALLY appreciate it!! A step-by-step walk through, or WHATEVER is great!! As long as i can cancel my membership..please and thank-you!! If anyone can help me, please send your help to my email address, because i need this immediantly!!!

Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own.

When dealing with these scamsites it's best to do it through your bank. Cancel your creditcard and get a new one just to be on the safe side.

Also make a complaint against them. You might even get a refund. Try to get contact info for the site and complain there as well demanding a refund.

Other than that your post is really vague. You don't say actually what happened so any more advice if hard to give. The above is just what you probably should do.

there really wasn't much for me to explain, although i know it would probably be much more helpful, but all that happend was i downloaded that site, and i clicked on it, nothing happend. i click a thousand times, STILL nothing..so then i figured i might as well cancel my membership, only the problem is, i CANT..but that you for the information given. I really wasn't expecting such a quick reply. The only reason i downloaded that crapass site was because i got an ipod and need a download site..does anybody know a good ipod site???
