Just a few questions from a newbie.

Occasionaly when I search for a song i'll see exactly what I typed in but as a search result and an .mp3 file. Are these viruses?

What are .dat and .bak files that come in my limewire folder after downloading a song? I did not open them at all and deleted them in paranoia. Are they viruses?

Now here is something funny I encountered. What is it with seeing exactly what you typed in but it has something at the end "xxx hot sexy naked"?
Like i'll search numb(the song from linkin park) and see "Numb xx hot sexy naked". Are these viruses? I havent even touched those search results as they most likely have a virus.

Thanks again all!

I would like an answer asap please. Idk if these .bak or .dat files are viruses or not!

Bump

And "bumps" only take up space on this forum; they don't ring anyone's bell.

The search results wherein your search is echoed back to you with something added on is simply a spam generator. After seeing my search results always including "...has orgasm on webcam", I simply added 'orgasm' to my filter. (When it's an mp3, I imagine one can only listen to said webcam orgasm).

You did the right thing. Files in your Shared (downloads) folder that you did not request should be deleted. I don't know what's in them, (perhaps they really are data and backup files); I'm not gonna look.

If you're dl'ing only mp3s and AVIs, then any strange files that come with them really are strange (delete them).

If you download torrents you may see strange files that actually belong there. (If you're downloading only via the LW search results you're not doing torrents; don't worry about it.) If you are doing torrents, stop torturing yourself with LW (use uTorrent or Azureus).

Some instant message and e-mail systems send a sound to users when a new item is received; kind of like a doorbell. Users send a 'bump' message to ring the bell again (in case the recipient was not at their computer when the previous message arrived.) Sort of like AOL's "You've got mail".

Thanks for the reply. Yeah sorry I get a little antsy sometimes. However though I have another question.

I was searching for a song through limewire, couldn't find it, then decided to shut off limewire since I wasn't gonna use it at the moment(after all I hear somebody can make your computer download stuff while your AFK or something). I go into my limewire folder and in the "Incomplete" folder(which is where I saw the .bak and .dat files from the first incident as I said in my very first post up there) I see a .dat file called "Downloads.dat". I deleted this. Was this normal for this to appear or something?

Another question

I recently searched for another song, downloaded about 10% of it, then stopped it to preview it and make sure it wasnt a virus. After pressing preview like 5 times in a row I get a message saying that "there is nothing to preview". So was that file a virus or something? Btw I then canceled the download completely.

I went to my "incomplete" folder and find some files. Downloads.bak, downloads.dat. and a couple MP3 files that are the preview of my song. Apparently the song was .01 seconds long. I deleted all these files.

Now I know I am not infected with any kind of virus because the download needs to be 100% complete forn the virus to work. Can anyone confirm this statement though? :)

i think preview needs be at least 20 secs to 1 minute
w video mpg can preview but avi MUST COMPLETE the view is on the ending of the file
if was virus the scanner should pop up to stop you
what av do you have
ya id scan the dl folder do quick check
