These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. Sneaky Files! This is more of a question more than anything else. I hope somebody out there has some serious Kung Fu since I am only a lowly student of computer martial arts with no master to teach me. Like the lowly Ronin I learn from those I cross paths with. Here is my question: I have no idea how I got what appears to be a porn download that hides from all attempts to locate it and keeps popping up on Creative Media player and I can not find it with Win Explorer to try to excise said demond from my system. It is only 34kb (yes, ONLY 34kb) and it has the name AAAAAAAAAA (I am not sure exactly how many As are in it but htat is how it shows itself). The real issue is I never recall wanting or attempting to DL this file nor do I have any interrest in such material on my computer since I DL music only on LimeWire. My sexlife is healthy enough to not need any assistance in getting things warmed up. Worst is that this file likes to put itself on my play list and I immediately get redirected to a site to get a DRM licence but thanks to some of my software it is treated like a popup and the site gets blocked (GO TREND MICRO PCCILLIN! which has proven to be one of the better antivirus programs out)! I want to extract this Malware from my system but so far every attemt to get at it has been a bust. I have some suspicions about this file and would like info on how to locate it and how to get rid of it. At the moment I am running a full scan and that takes time. I would be willing to bet it is far more than 34kb. It also appears to be putting itself on the playlist more than once. On a personal note I think if industry (meaning companies like Sony) that try to dump rootkits and other malware on our computers deserve to have their systems infected with things like the CH_virus or Ivan the Terrible just to show them how we feel about their corperate greed getting past common sense leading to them attempting to take control of our systems from us. Unfortunately the difference is that if we do such things to them it is illegal hacking where they ride the gray zone of what is legal with such attempts at introducing things into our computers without our knowledge. If anything we all need to constantly complain like hell to them and stop purchasing their products until they get the hint we do not as concientous computer users do not appreciate their going into places they do not belong. Until then we need to keep our defenses up and help one another find ways of defeating such vile attempts on our privacy and the free exchange of knowledge and art. So much for my rantings... If anybody can help me with what I am facing I would vastly appreciate it! Thanks everybody for the chance to be a part of the LimeWire community! The day one stops learning is the day that person dies! Knowledge is Power! |

Hi Foolofthehill! I figured out what was going on by accident. Here is the skinny I figured out. When I try to open a WMV file of approximately 1000+ kb the file tries to open Internet Explorer and access sites to get the DRM to play the file. It shows up in my play list as "AAAAAAAAAAAAA" followed by the message "free porn...". The "AAAAAAAAAAAAAA" is Media GO's way of saying "some looser file is trying to access the internet." Trend Micro PCCILLIN then tells IE "Hey jerk! NO POPUPS!" to the browser and blocks the site from opening with the warning message, "This site has attempted to open a popup but it has been blocked, check information bar above for more options," and since I know that I have no interrest in opening any popups I click the red "x box" of O.F.F. in the upper right hand corner of my browser. The "AAAAAAAAAA" had me freaked out because many fears raced through me like "Rootkit" and even worst, "Key Logger" with dial out capacity. I could not find "AAAAAAAAAAA" because it is a file within the 1000kb mwv files and as soon as I deleted the ones causing the "AAAAAAAA" to appear in Media GO's play list the problem went away. Go figure. Sometimes simple deduction wins out. Thankfully I am no complete novice but I wish I knew how to program with any reasonable amount of skill. I am just a power user who knows hardware reasonably well but I admit again I am no expert at all. I hope this information is useful to anyone having the same sort of difficulty trying to figure out why some form of wierdness is plaging them with no apparent answer or solution. Well, back into the fog... |
