I dont mind banners, they dont bother me much as long as they keep this forum alive ;)

For ppl with dsl and faster i can see it is no peoblems, but to 56k it slows down the surfing to less then halv speed and more. As Kathy probley knows i can take upto 1.5 minuts to download a webpage and more if it is hevy on ads. When I go to a web portal it can take upto 3 minuts to get the whole site on my screen, all because of ads. By blocking them out it takes 10-20 second, for the same website!!! That is one of the reason, why I HATE ADS!!

And...

Your garbage Proxomitron is going to eliminate what you do not want BEFORE you get it ?
Gosh... Really ? Hey, Real BS, check out what else this 'little' app does to your system... LOL

Tell you what, RealBigSwede...

The entire p2p world awaits YOUR site...

Publish the details here, free of charge, of course.

Got the message?

I say these things because, obviously, an intelligent person does not continuously proffer the same argument, but, instead, goes OUT and PROVES their ability to do better...

I can't wait, "Real BS"... I'll even be a moderator for you, as long as Iain can join me...

"I raise you and I call you..."

Up to you now, Really BS...

when you try to look wise don't laugh about something you don't know.

web washers like Proxomitron exactly do what you laugh about, they prevent loading of banners. and yes Proxomitron is spyware free. A little Google would have helped you and you looked better when you posted less.

PS: understand how http and image formats work... or simply try a web washer. you'll be suprised how much faster page loading is and how clean web pages can look without disturbing ads. no more annoying blinking banners, no more popups.

You do realize that ad revenue is usually the primary source of revenue for these content providers, right?

and unreg to say somthing about server resources and bandwidth, and ADS STEALING the biggest chunk of them!!!!

They're not using our server resources or bandwidth. They're being served by an ad network.

Cyclocide, since you run web sites, could you explain to me how it is known if a banner add is blocked? I am not being a pain in the ***, I am ignorant about this and would be interested in the algorithm that would allow detection of blocking....I have an idea, but would love to be educated in a non technical way...As I say, I am ignorant about such things and if you start getting way technical, I will be totally lost. Thank you.
There's really no reliable way to detect if people are blocking ads. If there was, a lot of publishers would be using it.

Well it seems that all the fuzz in this thread is originating from a misconception between RealBigSwede and CycloCide the system administrator.

Personally I think it is Okay to block Pop Up adds on sites that uses them especially multiple Pop Ups are hated.Pop Up adds must be the single most hated phenomena on the Internet it is close to user terrorism and they do not do no one any good. Not the users that will get very slow surf speeds and alot of irritating windows to close and not the companys that uses them because the users(visitors) hates them they will get irritated towards the companys that uses them so their brand name will suffer from it.Conclusion no one benefits from them they are just harmfull and I have a hard time believing that CycloCide actually likes them so I thinks that it is OK to block those *******s(Pop Up's).

What I do not think is Ok is to block Banner adds. The reason is because they are not as harmfull nor irritating as Pop Ups and yeat they are the ones that pay us visitors. The payment is the ability for us visitors to freely(for free) visit for instance a newspapers web site.If many users start to block those adds then the willingness amongst advertisers to pay for advertisment severly diminishes and we the users will suffer from it because alot more sites would start to charge us money instead and I and most others do not want that. These are the types of Adds that I think CycloCide are reffering to when he states that he do not like add aware software. But I do not think that he has anything against blocking of Pop Up's surely he must hate them just as anyone else does.

I don't particularly like pop-ups, but if sites depend on them for revenue, then so be it. I'm not blocking them.

For those of you that are blocking them, you're hurting the sites that are running them, not the advertisers.

This forum isn't going anywhere. It doesn't cost much to maintain compared to other sites.

I dont block the ads, too much time to do, but I do kill the hell out of pop-ups, so far my pop-up killer has killed over 7,000 pop-up windows, it doesn't block then it just kills them once they load, no harm done.
