Lord of the Rings has a distinguished reputation

Have you tried removing PeerGuardian? There is a special technique to doing it properly. You need to read their notes. PG for OSX is not as good as the one for windows due to less people developing & supporting it. I found support at their site was less than satisfactory to say the least.
