i have installed limewire on my new windows vista computer, but everytime i double click to open it doesn't do anything, as if i didnt give a command. what do i do?

Peerless August 20th, 2009 11:58 PM

have you installed Sun Java yet?

bradleythomasb August 21st, 2009 06:08 AM

i have java, is there a difference?

LW requires Java to run. :) Right-click the LW shortcut on desktop & choose Run as Administrator (this should be done for Vista). Also check compatibility & try changing it to windows xp; see steps 5 & 6 here: Fixes for Limewire (click on blue link)

If these suggestions don't help, try this approach: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html For Vista you should right-click installer & choose run as admin before installing.

Limewire crashes on opening

Hello,

I tried all what you said : reinstalling Java and Limewire offline after deleting preferences. I used CCleaner to clean registry.

It doesn't do nothing, Limewire crashes when opening.

I created a new administrator on my computer. I needed to reinstall LW. it works fine for this administrator.

Another problem on my PC : I can't defrag for a long time (too much secrets...), I didn't find a solution. Is this the problem ?

Thanks

wtf?

too much secrets?

whatever....

maybe you should just take your HDD out, get a heavy hammer, and destroy it and get a new one and start from scratch...

Thanks for your reply.

I don't have any hammer yet, but I go, right now, to buy a new one.

If you need it in the future, I'll give it to you.

Bye

Another thought .. since Vista is the beast it is ... with horrible permissions set up, ... try installing LW to a different location, perhaps even a different drive .. making sure you right-click installer run as admin before-hand. I've heard of some people simply creating a folder within the programs folder & installing it within which solved some problems. But the save location during setup might also be an issue.

Other than that, perhaps a program of some kind is clashing with LW on that account. Do you have alcohol on the system? This is known to clash with LW.

Another thought is a security program like a spyware program. Some of them are anti-p2p sharing software. And they will damage the program or prevent it opening properly.

BTW did you get any kind of crash log? That would be helpful. ;) I'm not a windows nut, but I'm sure the system does create crash logs. If you can find such a one for LW crashing, could you post it here as an attachment? Edit out any personal information first. ;)

First my computer runs XP2 professionnal

Does Vuze have problem with LW ?

It seems to be a Java problem. I reported the crash to Java, I have no answer yet.

I use Avast against viruses.

Crash log joined.

Thanks for your help.

Offtopic : the error message when I try to defrag is : ERROR_TOO_MANY_SECRETS 1381 (0x565) The maximum number of secrets that may be stored in a single system has been exceeded.

Nowhere to find a way to solve that.

Peerless August 24th, 2009 11:49 AM

ahhh....IC...

I must admit that when you first used the term 'too many secrets' I thought you were referring to some nasty pron files that you didn't want traces of spread all over the place if you defragged...ahahahaha...

then again, maybe I'm right as here is a piece of information:

A Windows NT 4 and Windows 2000 error that occurs when more than 4096 files have been encrypted on the system. This is the full error message:

1381L ERROR_TOO_MANY_SECRETS The maximum number of secrets that can be stored in a single system was exceeded. The length and number of secrets is limited to satisfy the United States State Department export restrictions.

Yet another wonderful case of the ever-helpful US government restricting the rights of users world-wide. In order to circumvent this, you need to have the domestic high encryption patch for Windows, which allows you to have more than 4096 encrypted files on the system.

this could also be a case of some malware having thrashed your registry....try running some scanners/cleaners and see if that fixes it...

I will bet you a dime to your dollar that if you back up all of your information then reformat and do a clean install your problems will be solved...
