I like LimeWire. But java is what i hate! "no java runtime environment installed" - answer found! Post #9 re: Java 7

Hello.

I have used limewire many times in the past and this is the 1st time i am having java install issues.

1. I try to intall limewire (have tried many different versions) and it gives a java install error.

2. I downloaded java myself and tried to install it, which it did. and it works fine.

3. I launch limewire and it states that i have no java runtime environment installed.

I am runnning windows 7. (build 7100)

Any help would be appreciated.:)

I'm not sure about Windows 7 in comparison to Vista. But try right-clicking the LW shortcut & choose Run as Administrator. This might help your situation, not sure.
Did you install using the Offline installer? http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp It's about 15 MB in size.

Make sure there are no older versions of Java on your system. Check Add/Remove Programs control panel. Also run this utility Crap Cleaner to clean up registry, click on the Registry tab on left-hand side after you open it.

thanks for the help, but no luck :(

Try this version http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...tml#post236880 simply unzip & use. This one might have better luck. :)

BTW go to Control panel, find the Java control panel & check the options. Under Java -> View, it should say which version is installed & if it is enabled or not. It needs to be Java 1.6 for LW 5.

Ok i now kno the proper problem. my pc doesnt "pick up" that java is installed.
Not in the browser, or any applications that need it.
I have tried to remove it and re-install it in everyway.
Im stummped

I presume you rebooted your system after installing Java? Some people don't realise you need to do that for the new update or installation to become active.

Did Java version show up under the Java control panel -> Java -> View? If it shows there, it can be enabled by clicking the check box to the right side of it.

Another option is you set up a Test account 'with' Administration permissions. Install Java, set the Java to be enabled for the System via the Java control panel. (Setting up new accounts is easy; easy to add or remove. Such as via Computer Management CP.)
Use the Offline Java installer.

BTW I gave it a 5 star Rating, since it wlll most likely find people in a similar scenario.

Edited to provide more info: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...-wont-run.html

Which version of Java should I download for my Windows 64-bit operating system? . (Has links to both 32 and 64 bit Java installers)

Another post to look at is this one: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...tallation.html

* Set both LW and Java installers to run as Administrator by right-clicking them & choosing that option before installing either of them. ;) (For LW you can right-click the shortcut on desktop & choose 'Run as Admin' option after installing (Sample image), to do equivalent with Java is a little more tricky, see above "Java not found" link in point #6.)

Edit: (a) LW 5 and LPE will not launch with Java 7 (1.7) directly. A workaround fix was found by pongo1 here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...tml#post368753
LW 4 versions are unaffected and will happily run under Java 7.

The newest update of Java 7: the 32-bit Java should be updated last. Otherwise a problem will occur with (a) java error when opening LW, (b) LW changing it's download location and location of settings.

I am having the same problem I think.

I will try all of the above suggestions to see if it works for me also. Thanks for the help!

FWIW, this has not helped me. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, and was originally using Limewire 4.16 on XP. I installed it on my new laptop running Windows 7, and it would never open; never even get to the splash screen.

I downloaded a new install of LW 5.5, and now it gets to the "Squeezing Lemons" part of the splash screen, but the progress bar never gets past around 80%. Then, Limewire minimizes for about 2 minutes, then just closes. After it closes, there are no instances in Task Manager.

I tried uninstalling Java, then reinstalling. I've also tried installing the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Java together. But still, I can't get it to launch.

Have you tried right-clicking the LW icon on desktop & changing (1) compatibility mode, (2) change to run as administrator ? :)

One option is Reinstallation Technique however that offline installer link for LW is inactive presently. You can find an offline LW installer link from Birdy's post: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-d...tml#post354839

csdude June 22nd, 2010 01:51 PM

I had tried changing the compatibility mode earlier, but just now tried running as administrator. Same result.

I haven't tried the reinstall technique, but I'll do that later this evening and post back.
