Default Hello, first time user, going crazy(LimeWire will not open because it says I need to install Java but Java is installed.)

LimeWire will not open because it says I need to install Java but Java is installed. How do I get Limewire to "see" and use the Java? When i first downloaded LW (latest basic version) it hung up and I got an error message saying that Windows had blocked the download of Java because there was no "signature". When I pressed OK (the only option), I got message saying LW would continue to download and I would have to download Java separately. I downloaded and installed Java 6 separately, and successfully, but when I click on the desktop LW icon to load it I still get the same error message saying that LW will not start until I download Java. I am running Windows 7 and either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. I say either one because I actually could not download the Java Runtime Environment app using Firefox because I kept getting the above mentioned error message saying Windows had blocked the file because it wasn't signed. There was no option to go ahead and download it anyway. But internet explorer 64 bit did allow me to download and install it.

I almost replied yesterday about the 32 & 64 bit java but decided to install LW on Windows 7 first. From memory this is a 64 & 32 bit Java issue. I would always recommend downloading the Offline version, which is usually the 2nd option & is usually around 15 MB. Strangely on mine, LW seems to run fine with Java 32 bit on Win 7. Having more than one Java version may cause an issue however. Let us know how you go with trying the other Java version. You can find out which Java version you have via the Java Control Panel. Also, in this Control Panel is a Security tab, check Java is set to allow security certificates. This might be your issue at least with downloading the Online Java since Java site does require this option AFAIK.

Default thanks

Hey, thanks so much for taking the time to help. I'm not very computer savy and usually need basic step by step instructions. I was finally able to get LW to install using the offline installer, disabling Norton, and going into internet options advanced and checking the box allowing software to download with invalid signature. I do have the issue of 2 copies of jre and hope they will coexist. The 64bit copy is on a raid drive D and the 32 bit copy is on the system C drive. I have LW on the D drive. This is my first time using a forum for help; certainly won't be the last.

Default Uninstall LW?

Dear Mr. LOTR,
I made the error of downloading LW 5 on my Mac OSX 4.11. I see now that the Mac Java version I have won't support LW 5. So what should I do? I don't know how to uninstall the LW5 and the previous version of LW is gone. Am I lost in limbo land forever? I know you have answered this question a million times. Once more please?

I'm not a Mac user

But for now, try the advice in post #24 here (click on link) for uninstalling: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...tml#post347203

And there's more info about downloading old installers here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/mac-os...link-here.html
