Like a lot of others, LW was running great til I downloaded 4.9.29. Now I can't connect. I have a laptop that connects fine with version 4.9.28. I just noticed an upgrade to 4.9.30....I thought this would be the miracle fix....gee....it's not...what a surprise. I've tried everything on these forums to fix it. Anyone know of another program to use? |
That's exactly what I want to know...Limewire has been the best one by far that I have used, but now I feel like it is the worst...no help to get the thing working...there is just a minor error, but I can't find it...another pc works fine with it on the same router. What is the problem! |
I went to Control panel - Network & Internet Connections - Network Connections - Right Click on Connection - Properties - Remove TCP/IP Microsoft 6 and it works now....YAHOO |
There is a problem on Windows XP (at least with my copy and a few that I have seen) that I have not seen addressed anywhere but I have realized exists after doing several tests and many attempts to find workarounds. I still haven't figured out what exactly causes the problem yet, but I'm working on it. For a while I was having an issue connecting to certain online resources but never had any trouble browsing or using most internet based programs. Certain programs would not work properly which included all Gnutella network programs including Limewire, bittorrent, streaming QuickTime audio and movies, connections to game servers such as UT2004, and certain https sites that used a direct port connection. I can only assume that this was caused by some problem with the way my computer handles TCP or UDP connections or a corruption of Winsock. In LimeWire, when the problem is present, LimeWire reports that it has detected a firewall and will not connect to the network. However when the problem is not present, LimeWire will, after a few seconds, report that no firewall was detected and then proceed to connect to the network. One workaround that sometimes works is to unplug my Ethernet internet connection before Windows boots and then to reconnect it once Windows has started. A similar workaround that seems to always work is to run the WinSockXPFix.exe (http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html), unplug the Ethernet cable while rebooting, and then reconnect it when Windows starts. After doing this, the above mentioned connection problems are gone, and LimeWire no longer reports a detected firewall and connects to the network properly. If, though, I do this after a full shutdown or reboot, the problems resurface when Windows is next booted. I don't know what the cause of the problem is yet, but I have some theories. I am not willing to rule out my firewall (ZA Security Suite), but in my tests, it does not seem to be the problem because even after being turned off completely the problems with LimeWire et al. are still present. Also, when the problem is present, ZoneAlarm does not report that LimeWire is even attempting to connect to the internet, but when the problem is corrected ZoneAlarm reports allowing LimeWire to connect. Because using the WinSockXPFix program seems to correct the issues, I suspect some piece of software is corrupting my WinSock or uses a defective LSP. I would interested to know if anyone has had similar symptoms, if anyone knows what the cause of the problems may be, and if this workaround corrects the problem with LimeWire or any other internet problems for anyone else. Acer Ferrari 4000 Notebook > AMD Turion 64 2.0 GHz > 1 GB RAM > Windows XP Pro SP2 > Windows Firewall Off > Zone Alarm Security Suite installed > At time of post using LimeWire and Java versions: 4.9.29 and 1.4.2_05 (updating...) > Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet card |
Am I ignorant or unlucky? I have been through these forums tryinfig to find a fix for limewire but I still keep getting "LimeWire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due a firewall program blocking LimeWire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow LimeWire access to the internet and restart LimeWire.". I have done the enabling of Gnutella ports on the control panel. And I have disabled Windows firewall, I have Norton internetworm protection on and I checked to make sure that javaw was on the "Permit All" list and it was. I have no Idea of what other direction to work in. Everytime I try to load LimeWire a prompt comes up from Norton Internet Worm Protection stating the it has detected a remote system trying to access my computer. It asks me if I want to permit it to allow access to the internet even though I click ok to permit I still get the same messege. I have: LIMEWIRE BASIC v 4.9.30 Microsoft Windows XP Home 2002sp2 (came with the system hate it) Intel P4 1.8ghz 256RAM Motorola Cable modem Comcast Broadband Norton Anti Virus w/ InternetWorm Protection I have disabled Windows Firewall I share no connections My test did work I can't do the true false test LimeWire won't open I also have good speed on my tests I have also deleted my preferences.   Thanks, ~j halo___@msn.com |
Hey There, I've got an almost identical setup to you, Johnny Sixpack (except I have PC-cillin, not Norton). Like everyone else I've been labouring through all the posts trying pretty much everything on this thread without much luck until I tried something someone mentioned somewhere back there (sorry, I can't credit whoever it was!)!!! I changed the port # in Tools - Options - Advanced - Firewall to 44093 (seemed like a nice enough number), hit connect, and lo & behold, I've been connected for at least 10 minutes now (I think this may be a record!!!). I don't know if this post is a little premature but hey, it seems to be worth a try. Good Luck everyone. -Erica |
DOH!!!! Yep, you guessed it! Disconnected again. I don't know how long it stayed on for this time. I'm getting pretty tired of having to click on connect again all the time. Doesn't it auto-connect when it gets disconnected? Mine doesn't seem to. It just sits there not connected until I tell it to! Just a quick question... when setting up your firewall in whatever third party firewall you happen to use (I use PC-cillin) which of the 3 instances of javaw.exe are you supposed to be telling it to exclude. I've got one in c:windows/system32, one in c:windows/system and another one (I can't remember where). Do I need to put in a path to the file or is it enough to just put in the exe file name? Has ANYONE managed to set up PC-cillin firewall to allow the use of Limewire? As it is I've turned it off and turned on the Windows XP firewall and set up the exception in that. Although Limewire isn't detecting a firewall like it was with PC-cillin, connecting for more than a few minutes still seems to be a real problem. Oh, and has ANYONE actually claimed their money-back guarantee? How do I do it if I can't get this fixed? -Erica P.S. Here's my system setup: Intel P4 2Ghz 512Mb RAM Windows XP (probably with SP2 but haven't kept track) 56k modem connection (yeah I know that's lame!) My internet server is iinet (in Australia) |
Hello I'm having problems with connecting to lw. it did this kinda thing a while back but I sorted it out (no idea how). this is a new version i'm using. When i connect it says after a while "your machine does not appear to have an active internet connection or a irewall is blocjiking lw from accessing the internet. i answered these questions... My Fire wall is set up to allow LW full acess. I did the test and got the message " Your Test Worked" Please give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version? winxp 2. What firewalls you have? zonealarm 3. How much ram? - 256... maybe or 512.. 4. Hard Disk space available? – 11.5GB out of 120gb 5. Connection type? its broadband but it has a router and other people share the internet. Its a 256 connection i think 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? uh.. 7. Where are you trying to connect from? home 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version -LW 4.9.23pro, JAVA 1.5.0.04 9. Who is your isp provider? slingshot i think anyway, any help will be greatly appreciated. it's getting quite annoying. I tried doing all the other things mentioned in the other posts, such as deleting the preferences. Thanks! |
possible fix if you have java 5 installed uninstall it. my limewire wouldnt connect i got pro and tryed everything else. i uninstalled java 5 because i had java 4 previous and now it connects instantly. hope this works for some of you. |
Still can't connect after downloading upgrade to 4.9.3 I've tried everything I've read here and still can't connect. XP...so what's next? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! Ash |
I'm not entirely sure if this is the same problem everybody else is reporting, but like most others, for me this problem has only started occurring since I upgraded to 4.9.30 and 4.9.33. I have: LimeWire Pro 4.9.33 Microsoft Windows 98 (yeah, I know, I know ...) A truly ancient Pentium II 350MHz CPU (yeah, I know, I know ...) 128MB RAM Two hard drives, 6.4GB and 120GB (free space 450MB and 102GB respectively); music is saved to the second drive Terayon cable modem Broadband connection via Shaw Cable No firewall No shared connections (connecting from home) My test worked, but was very slow, over a minute Got true for the true/false test Have not yet tried deleting my preferences I am a moderately experienced LimeWire user. The problem I am experiencing is that LimeWire starts, and once the screen appears, the connection quality logo goes all the way up to "Turbo Charged Connection". However, my searches return few or no results, my monitor shows no uploads at all, and when I look at the "Connections" tab, I find that all five of my connections have only been active for five to twenty seconds, and they are being dropped constantly. It is very rare for any one connection to stay up for more than a minute, and LimeWire is CONSTANTLY trying to make new connections. Now, I know my computer is very old, but it still WORKS, and I don't have a couple of thousand spare dollars to buy a new one (although I'm working on that!). However, before upgrading to 4.9.30/33, I had LimeWire Pro 4.8.1, and it never had a problem like this. Indeed, the only reason I upgraded was to get rid of that annoying "There's a newer version" message. 1. Is it my computer? Is LimeWire 4.9.x incompatible with Pentium II's or Windows 98? 2. Is it something I've done or failed to do? 3. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem - it starts, but the connection is tenuous at best? What did you do? Thanks to all. |
Just a thought for now as it's late ... well it is here:D Are you trying to connect as a leaf or an ultrapeer? You should see in the connections window. Which ever it is ... try going to options or preferences >speed>Ultrapeer capabilities> Dissable ultrapeer capabilities>check box>apply>ok For a couple of days I had your problem and this worked for me. Usually I connect as an ultrapeer although I don't think I should personally, as my connection is not that fast. I think this apparent annomoly may have changed with version .30, but I have not updated. Hopefully there will be some more thoughts soon:) |
Thank you, Hobo. I originally had ultrapeer capabilities disabled, and was connecting as a leaf. I have now re-enabled ultrapeer capabilities, but I am still connecting as a leaf. It has made little difference to the symptoms - the connections still drop, but the average time to dropping has gone up to about 20 seconds from about 5 seconds. There's another problem that I've noticed with the new version of LimeWire. Graphics are EXTREMELY slow. I'm used to slow graphics because of my antique computer, but it's ridiculous now. If I open another window (say, this one, where I'm typing in my post) while LimeWire is running, then when I close this window, it takes up to ten minutes for LimeWire to redraw its screen. Any ideas? Thanks again. |
Umpiredice:- I'm no windows expert, but I think you are really in need of an upgrade or two:) The 450 MB on your one drive which I assume houses your OS is not enough (well on a mac it certainly is not enough) 125 RAM is pretty dodgy too! and also Limwewire version 4.9.30 was hailed as the first limewire to suck even more out of your computer, particularly windows. I am hoping you still have the 4.8.1 installer on your machine. I think going back to that will solve yopur problems. Let me know if this helps. 4.8.1 should be available on Limewire, if you can get it! Dissabling ultrapeer capabilities might still help a bit, as I get the impression that attempts to connect in vain as an ultraper might use up some resourses. |
Thanks again, Hobo. I do still have the 4.8.1. installer. I'll uninstall 4.9.33 and reinstall 4.8.1. Do you think I should also do that trick with deleting the preferences file? And yes, no kidding I need an upgrade! However, I believe I can free up a lot of space on my C: drive by moving all my photo albums to the D: drive, there's still over 100GB of space on that. I think I'll get perhaps a gig and a half that way. Thanks for pointing out that the lack of space would hurt Windows performance, I didn't think it needed 450MB! But I've noticed in the last year that practically everything on my machine has been slowing down, so that's probably it. Have you any other suggestions? |
umpiredice I see your computer has been slowing down for a while what Hobo says is right you need more space on your C: drive. In the future I would suggest any programs you download put them on you D: drive I would also suggest that you move any programs you can to that drive. Also you need to see how many applications you have running in the background. You can do this by pressing and holding Ctrl+Alt then pressing Delete. This should open your Task Manager you will be able to see what programs are running in the background. You can also see how much memory you are using with 128Mb of memory you do not have allot to spare LimeWire will use about 50Mb itself so that only leaves 70Mb any applications running in the background will be using memory also. You probably need to derangement your hard drive 98 was notorious for fragmenting. Also I do not see where you are running any kind of spy ware detection tools. You should probably do a spy ware scan and clean any spy ware out. If you download a spy ware detector set it to run only when you want it to. You do not want it running in the background it will only use memory and I do not think you have any to spare. You can get Ad-Aware SE Personal at the link below it is free or at least it use to be. And it works pretty good. http://www.download.com/ Hope this helps get your performance back to what it use to be if you could get another 256Mb it would help you allot. |
Thank you, Grandpa. I run the Windows disk defragmenter every Wednesday morning at 4:00 a.m., and disk cleanup every Tuesday at the same time. Should I schedule them every night, do you think? I already have AdAware, and I run it manually about every two weeks. The first time I ran it, I got rid of surprisingly few files, and it's been very rare for anything to turn up since then. I'm pretty careful about what I let onto my computer. The only programs I have running all the time are NetNanny (which I usually have disabled), Norton AntiVirus 2003, Kodak EasyShare, and Adaptec CreateCD. I'm not sure why the latter two are always running, as I don't have shortcuts to them in my Startup folder. Stopping them has no noticeable effect on system speed. My memory usage is a bit puzzling. I only have 128MB of memory, yet the system memory monitor tool shows an average of 250MB allocated! Processor usage is typically around 10%, except when a program is loading, then it jumps briefly to about 80%. I've noticed that if I have a DOS prompt window open, and I run anything at all in it, processor usage jumps to 100% and stays there. If the window is open but I'm not running a program, processor usage stays around 10%. I gained 1.8 GB of free space on my C: drive by moving my photos to the D: drive, and since then the system is noticeably faster. In fact, it's much faster. I haven't had a chance to try running LimeWire yet, but I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks again to everybody for all the help. |
Your cpu has some virtual memory built into it that is why you see the 250Mb of memory being used but you are maxed out. I am guesssing you are using PC 133 memory I have seen that type of memory sell pretty cheap on e-bay $5.00 or less you may want to pick up another 256KB or 128KB stick it would help you out allot. If you do go to e-bay make sure you check out what there delivery charge is before you click buy. Also check out what there rating is. |
i had this problem too (limewire wouldn't connect) nothing in any of these threads worked & then i just uninstalled some windows security updates & i'm up & running with a good connection hope this helps someone |
Thank you, Hobo and Grandpa! The suggestion that really helped was to free up space on my C drive. I've moved a pile of stuff to my D drive, and my C drive now has over 2GB free. What an incredible difference it's made! It's not just LimeWire, it's every program I have - everything is ten to twenty times faster than it used to be! My original problem with LW 4.9.33 is gone. Connections start immediately and stay up for hours. I get swarming downloads of over 100K/sec, which I never got before. Searches return hundreds of sources instead of only one or three. Good to be back in business! Thank you again! |
Dont work for me, still unable to connect. I'm running OSX tiger and LW 4.9.3. Another solution to fix this problem???? |
Not without more details about your set up. Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: OS 10.4.1) 2. What firewalls you have? Are any active? Go to system prefs>Sharing>Services & Firewalls & are any ticked? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? |
ok, i have the same problem, again, as everybody else. i have tried most fixes in this forum to the best of my abilities. i have turned off my firewalls, i have tried to say allow gnutella in my firewall settings. i have run the jar, i have deleted the prefrences files, i have even tried the fix with the internet connection fixer thing a couple pages back, all to no avail. i can start limewire fine, no problems there, but when i try to connect i get one bar and the message 'you are currently connecting to the network'. it will sit on that message until the rapture if i let it. i also have a firewall registered (but thats probably becuase of my college network) which is in all actuallity probably the basis of my problem. i have email my IT department here at the University of Tennessee, and i am waiting for a responce, though i'll most likely not get the help i need from them, they don't like p2p clients at all, seeing as though it slows the entire university network down. any help that i could recieve from you all would be greatly appreciated. here are my stats - 1. Windows XP Home Edition SP2 2. Windows firewall, and Mcafee is what the universtiy uses, but i dont think i can access the settings on that one. 3. 504mb DDR ram 4.available disk space: C: - 10.9 GB, D: - 9.98 GB 5. as ive said, connection type is through a college network, we use a T3 here, i believe 6. LW version 4.9.28, java version 1.5.0_04 7. my 6346 test worked 8. my recieving incoming was false i think thats everything you asked for, if you need any additional information i will gladly give it to you promptly. i have been in the dorm at this university for almost 3 months and havent had limewire working once, though i do occasionally fiddle with it. this is the first time ive requested help because im tired of living without my limewire. please help a poor college student who would rather waste his hours sharing files, rather than studying! thank you for your time, will |
Odds are the college is blocking P2P networks allot of the do you could try different ports that works some times. |
ive tried several high numbered ports. i went to a port listing website and used a couple of those, nothing works. ive talked to a friend who said i might need to download a patch for my upnp from microsoft. im not on my computer right now, but ill get back and let you know if that works. thanks! |
So basically if we're college students, you have no way to help us because our school is more than likely the problem? |
I have tried everything I have found online and I am still not able to connect to Limewire. I had Norton and got rid of it. I have Mcfee and still nothing. I have re-installed and nothing. I have deleted limewire preferences and nothing. I even got rid of limewire and have tried kazza, morpheus, and soulshare and I am not able to connect to these p2p servers. i have had limewire for three years and have never had this problem. I'm looking through all theses connection problem forums and nothing I'm finding works...can anyone help me????? |
The odds are your ISP is blocking or filtering P2P networks if none work and it used to but just quit working suddenly. But in any case a little more info is needed. Can you give us a total description of your set up: 1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal) 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is. * Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml 12. Do This test, Is the result True/False? http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...757#post103757 Is the result True/False 13. Do a speed test post the results here. http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ |

what is sonicwall?? i think i have a java or cookke problem or something....i do have norton and it says that some worm has to be fixed on it and i cannot find it |
Looked through and tried suggestions I've been working at fixing Limewire all day. :tease: My problem seems a little different than some others. I was downloading just fine. I had downloaded at least 6 music files. I can open the program just fine and even execute searches. The problem is when I click download (with 100+ sources) it never downloads...just sits down in the download area "connecting" never getting past 0% then finally times out saying "need more sources". i answered these questions... My Norton Fire wall is set up to allow LW full acess. My XP firewall is disabled. I even had both disabled for a short time but nothing changed I did the test and got the message " Your Test Worked" Downloaded event patch 4226 Speed test - download: 37kbps / upload: 114kbps I deleted the preferences file too...no help. The Bug Report (Received Incoming this session) says TRUE. Please give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version? win xp 2002 w/sp2 2. What firewalls you have? Windows (disabled) Norton (made sure it allows limewire) 3. How much ram? - 2.69 GHz, 504 MB of RAM 4. Hard Disk space available? 13GB 5. Connection type? Dial up 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Lucent Win Modem, 3/31/2003, vers: 8.28.0.0 7. Where are you trying to connect from? home 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? Limewire:4.12.6, Java: 1.5.0_06 9. Who is your isp provider? highland communications, small, local telephone provider in KY/TN...part of the larger InfoAve.net |
Sounds like yours isn't a connection problem, rather a fake file problem:D There are fakes throughout the network now which will be stuck connecting for ages & go straight to 'need more sources'...these things won't ever download!! Search again, vary your search terms (for music files, look for artist or album rather than song title). Also try the All Types search. Stay away from files with a huge number of sources. Go for a file with 10 sources or less & those with a modem source. If you're searching for new releases/really popular files, you're more likely to see fakes than if you're looking for older or rarer stuff. Look through these couple of threads for more info Info about fake files How to find music The same thing can happen when downloading video files. Always look up a file with Bitzi before download. A file with heaps of sources but no Bitzi rating is often a fake How to use Bitzi  |
help... I've been using limewire for seriously years now... worked perfectly too! I stopped using it for a couple months, and now it wont work at all! I get the error message " Limewire was unable to initialize..." I deleted it and downloaded another, shutoff all my shields and stuff including Norton, windows firewall, and spysweeper. and nothings helped! I am online wirelessly and its never been problem till now! Help! |
that worked! Thank you for posting and replying; that jar worked like a charm. I had problems connecting (one green bar instead of all 5) and now it's fixed. Thanks again! |
Hi, New to the forums, this is my first post!! My problem with connection don't seem to be in the millions of similar post that are nearly all the same. My set up and connection, searching and downloading all happens perfectly well, and the bandwidth I get is as expected for a 1mbps broadband. The problem occurs that after about 20 minutes all downloads will stop and I will get the error message advising that I don't appear to have an internet connection. Sure enough my broadband has dropped off so I just reconnect. The loss of connection to the ISP does not ever happen without Limewire connected (except sporadically every week or so, but every 20 minutes as when LW is connected). It makes no difference if I have my browser open (I use Firefox). I use Zone Alarm but LW is fully cleared for access, and makes no difference if I close ZA. I do not (nor have I ever) used the windows firewall. My ISP is Tiscali @ 1mbps, I am not on a LAN, and I am not using a router. My suspicion is that it could be a fault with my ISP, tiscali can normally provide better than 4mbps but were unable to on my phone line, suggesting the quality is poor. It seems to disconnect mainly on high traffic, though it has not done this while downloading large programs through firefox. Could there be anything in LW to stop this happening? And if not how do I make it automatically reconnect? (surely it can prompt windows to reconnect automatically?) Obviously this makes it very difficult to download anything large, and for others to download from me, and I keep losing my queue positions. Also after 3 or 4 drop-offs my services in windows start getting scrambled and eventually have restart windows to cannect properly (unless I wait for ages). Thanks for any help. |
Umm im haveing problems connecting and never tried this method, im on windows Xp, would please tell me hhow to do this step by step, trying to find out what to or where to go on my own would just cause me to give up, please help i been trying everything else, this is like my last option. I just tried on my own and dont even know where to find the limewire pref folder thing, so yeah i need help. The main thing I dont understand is just last week limewire was working fine on my old computer which was a windows xp, but now it says a firewall is blocking the connection. I tried reconfiguring the firwewalls, turning them off, pretty much everything but it still says I cant connect. |
Hi, I'm having the same problem with lw. On the bottom left corner, the little bars are all red except for the first one. And every time I want to search a song, a box pops up that says LIMEWIRE IS CURRENTLY CONNECTING TO THE NETWORK. I have tried everything. Please please help! |
|
chyeaa Thanxx for the help, but I got it fixed myself. It was just a problem with my internet :) |

the purge worked...but when i open limewire it opens on the screen for a second then VANISHES!?! can anyone help??? |
after HOURS of troubleshooting and doing EVERYTHING i read in the millions of posts...here's what i did to FINALLY get my TURBO-CHARGED connection: exit limewire (tray, too), deleted as much of the .limewire directory as the system would allow, then start limewire. THAT'S IT! |
Limewire preference folder Brick wall in front of globe with a #4 next to it. Please tell me the steps to delete preference folder. I don't know if this was correct. I went to start>search, typed in limewire. I did not not see 'preference folder'. Also before this I closed out limewire completely, and I also ''showed' all hidden files'. I still don't know what I'm looking for. I read somewhere if you type a path it will appear somewhere. Where do you go to do that? Thanks for any input you have. Nova:notsure: |
Please read the following & click on the 'fixes for LW' link: Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location). Fixes for LimeWire This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later. The folder isn't called 'preferences'...it's called .limewire, or LimeWire (depending on which location it's in). |
I honestly don't think any of these fixes help. I was trying some of these "fixes" on my laptop and it totally destroyed my laptop. It won't even boot up anymore. I think that Limewire needs to fix their program. I had limewire for years and never had a problem until this year. Now I can't connect (other than the one green bar like everyone else). I didn't change anything. One computer I tried it on had no Nortons and my windows firewall wasn't even on. I don't think it has anything to do with that. I hope that Limewire will be fixed someday. I really liked it. But for now I would suggest people do what I'm doing if you want to get music...just buy an itunes card and pay .99 cents for the song, because obviously Limewire "fixes" aren't helping much. I'm not trying to be a mean person I'm just trying to say be careful while trying to fix the computer and that I honestly think that something else is going on with Limewire. I just can't see all these people losing connection for no reason. |
