Hi, Thanks for your assistance so far. I went to the site for opening a port and the IP address provided did not work. That is the first hurdle. The next is, when it does work, trying to remember the password... |
lol Yeah you need to keep a close record of your password just in case. For me, I have the page bookmarked & auto-login. I'm almost the only person who uses my comp. Try the ip thing again. Read these 2 links very carefully! And think about the choice of no.'s. And make notes about the no.'s when they tell you to (write them down.) http://www.portforward.com/efficient/5100-dhcp.htm http://www.portforward.com/networkin...ic-xp-dhcp.htm After you have set up a static address you are ready for port forwarding. |
Question- The numbers you mention- do they have anything to do with the troubleshooting guide found on the main menu of the LM site? |
LW is by default meant to run thru port 6346. It can be run on other ports. Re: port no.'s the answer is yes. As for the other address I don't know. I haven't had experience with a firewall. If necesary I'd call on someone else to answer that question. |
Thanks... will update. Also posted in the other world. BTW- prefered browser is Neoplanet. |
Ok. On LM main page when you get to step 17, do you go to step 12 or 14? I know it sounds basic, please excuse my ignorance. |
No xcuse my ignorance but I've never configured a xp firewall. I use mac. I did see a user post a slight alternative to those instructions. But finding it could take an eternity. I searched it once before without success. |
Hi, thanks for your reply. The 5100 Speedstrem Modem was supplied by SBC/Yahoo. I attempted to connect using the SBC/Tahoo supplied browser but when I went to http://www.portforward.com/efficient/5100-dhcp.htm and put in the appropriate #'s (copy & paste) it was a blank. So I opened Windows Explorer... I never used it but signed up all and ditto ... went to portforward and used the same address but still came up blank. As I check connections on my LM connections info is going out. On a personal note, I learned how to "drive" on a Mac many years ago and loved it! Well, like standard vs. automatic, auto was cheaper in the long run and most feasible in the big world of business. Just bought a Sony laptop, *but* it sure ain't as fun. I salute you. |
I'm relatively new at the connections wection so I'll get somebody with a lot more experience. Their native language is not english (hope you speak French lol.) And they are very good at solving these issues. You may need to be patient because they're busy at present to my knowledge. It would help for us all if you registered as a member of the forum. It's easier to contact you then. And vice versa. |
Before we take more time to think about what goes wrong, do you happen to have win XP SP2 installed by any chance? SP2 limits the outgoing connections and is a bitch. You might want to look at this thread if you want. (if you a new to computers, it might be easier to uninstall SP2 in add/remove programs) http://gnutellaforums.com/showthread...ax+windows+sp2 If no SP2, and no worky: configure the modem as bridged mode (making the modem only act as a modem, no router) look there to do so: http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101306.asp *WARNING* You'll have to configure the PPoE connnection on your computer now to connect so have in hand the connection settings first!!!! To configure PPoE in XP, go http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/wxpadcon.htm Bonne chance! |
