After troubleshooting- glitches exist

Greeting and thanks in advance for your assistance.

Starting roughly two weeks ago I have been experiencing connection problems. Like LimeWire suddenly developed a mind of it's own. If it wouldn't connect when I requested, an hour or two it would on it's own (if I left the application open).

I am operating Windows XP, using 4.0.5 Pro, DSL connection, and had one error message pop up a few days ago reading "Gnutella network blocked - port 6346 or some similar number combo.

I went to the Connection Problem area in the LM site and followed the directions on how to open the port. It worked and the port is open. I can go into the firewall section and see that the port is enabled. However, I still cannot connect. But the is a 50/50 chance it will connect if the application is left open.

So here I am at the forum and tried in vain to find and delete the C:/document and settings/your_username/.limewire and I can't find it..... And I just checked the LM connection and it's up, running, and turbocharged.

I guess the bottom line is LM will connect when it wants to. Connectint to and surfing the internet is no problem. It is also likely that the problem could be on my end, I have a learing disability when it comes to doing things in order.

The location of the preferences folder is depends greatly on the OS you are using.

Why don't you update your version? Version 4.2.2 is out already (damn they are going fast!). Try it.
EDIT: Try it because the newest versions connect to the network much faster than the previous ones.

OK, took your advice to download newer "pro" version. Still not connecting. Go figure.

(Edited a few minutes after posting) I am now on. There seems to be a lag- if I leave the application on it turns on when it wants to.

You're connected but are you getting incoming? After LW has been on for about half an hour, do this check for us: Bug Report instructions & sample image If it's false then you probably have a modem blocking incoming, in which case: What brand name & model number of modem do you use?

Update your Java: Java 1.4.x OR Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

A well set-up LW can start to continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints.

Here's a quick test: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ What happens when you go to that site?

It should be: 'Your test page was a success!'

Please tell us your modem brand name & its model number. This could be important if it uses NAT (which can block many incoming ports)

Speedstream 5100

Test was a success- use 5100 "spead stream" with five lights

Ah you posted this post in your other thread re: avi. It gave me a head-ache trying to move it here lol.

OK thankyou for providing your modem. This IS the issue.

You will need to forward a port & give it the port no. that LW uses which is port 6346. See Speedstream 5100 port forward instructions

After doing that you will need to force ip within LW. For instrucitons see: LW Force IP settings & instructions & sample image

Your modem does still need to be configured b/c it uses NAT which will reduce your connectability with LW. It will particularly make it incredibly difficult for anybody to upld from you. I had this same problem myself just a month ago. Once it's done, you'll notice LW's efficiency & connectivity will increase dramatically.
